Yeah it put me back to y=129. Could you just move me back to town then please?

I finally got to spend a few minutes trying out 1.8. I'm liking the new terrain generation... some of the cliffs I came across remind me of the early days of Infdev.

;D ;D ;D

I'm trying to get my free time schedule organized to include classes. Hopefully I'll have time to play regularly soon.

What's up with the server? It seems to be going down frequently and kicking me within seconds of joining consistently.

LennyLen: OK, you should be back in the regular world now. I've also added the "Nethertopfix" plugin, which should prevent this from happening again.

relpats_eht: Not sure what's going on there, but the log has a bunch of "java.net.SocketException: Socket closed" messages when you tried to connect.

Nope. I appeared in a cavern in the Nether. It also contained a few ghasts, all of which fired at me before I could even move (the game doesn't accept any input for a few seconds on the MacBook). I just managed to quit the program before I died.

Whoops. Well, try now. I've backed up your player data, so I can restore your inventory if this latest change accidentally causes your death. :-/

Still in the Nether. This time I appeared in some burning Netherack, so I had to disconnect again instantly.

LennyLen: OK, since I have no idea how to put you back in the regular world, I've moved you right next to the portal instead.

UPDATE: I've finally installed the Multiverse mod, and set up a quick (and ugly) teleporter to BAF's world in town. I'll get around to making the teleporter look nice later...

Let me know if you run into any problems with the server. Apparently Multiverse can cause Worldguard to hit an error in some situations.

OK, so I found out why stepping into the portal didn't take me to the right place. The entire tunnel system I had built is now gone. So there was no Nether-side portal to connect to.

edit: I had patched up some of the holes in the walls around the portal as well, but they've reverted also.

Hmm, do you remember roughly when you created that tunnel? I can try restoring it from a backup.

I'm not sure. I'll just make another one.

So what's everyone think of the new magical direction Minecraft is taking? Potions/Enchantments. Ironic since already Bethesda was suing Mojang for the dang "Scrolls" name of another game in Mojang's development, and now it's gonna be more [actually] like their Elder Scrolls series.

I don't like the direction myself. Never saw Minecraft as a fantasy game despite the Nether/monster mobs. Also I kinda view those features as RPG-ish. I'd rather have more building-related features like a larger variety of materials or maybe colored bricks by mixing clay with dye. Or maybe different colored planks for the three types of wood.

I don't mind it, but I really hope MineCraft keeps the focus on exploration and building, not "adventure".
Even if they do add huge boss enemies or dungeons or something, the only rewards anyone would care about is crafting mats. :P

They did state that the "real game" would be an adventure style thing. I really do hope they keep the building mode, so we don't have to deal with a poorly written adventure.

I'd say it's more like Dwarf Fortress: focusing on adventure crap nobody cares about rather than fixing the sandbox parts people actually play.

I'm personally looking forward to the adventure bits. The building got boring for me a long time ago, which is why I don't play anymore. I'm waiting for them to make it into a game. Building something is completely pointless if there's not a purpose for that something. Effectively everything people build now is just art. It serves no practical purpose. I know what you're going to say though: buildings are shelter from mobs, and rails are transportation! That's all well and good, but you respawn after death, and there's no point going anywhere because there's nothing to do there either (aside from more pointless crafting).

The adventure bits can actually give crafting a purpose. Until lately Minecraft was really just a crappy level editor UI... :-X It was fun only if you used your imagination to pretend that it was more than it was.

It's great that you can just screw around in GTA IV, for example, but it's not actually very much fun after a while. You need the actual story and characters to give it all a purpose. Don't get me wrong though: the sandbox elements are critical. The story elements are just as critical though.

Hey guys, how do I connect to Allegro's Minecraft server?

Edit:Nevermind, I got it. It was night when I joined so I got blown up once and killed by a mob of mobs after that. The "beginner's shack" had dirt and gravel. No wood :( I had to like climb hills to get to a tree and I did and replanted it, then I died. :(

Edit:After starving almost all my health away, I decided to voyage into the Nether for a cooked porkchop from the Nether pig things since the only mob on the surface was a sheep, and there was no food in the starter chest.

Shortly after arriving in the Nether I was bombarded by a Ghast which actually turned off the Nether portal. I trying luring his shot to re-ignite the portal but the ghast flew under the platform I was on. I'm still alive in the Nether -- up the stairs by the portal (the one by the starter shack)

I've never been in a multiplayer server before so I tried giveing me some flint and steel and changing my mode to creative but I guess only mods can do that.

:(

Are you sure you're on the right server? The building you should start in (or around) doesn't have any supplies in it, but is near the store-room, which has everything you could need (except coal).

I also entered the Nether via my portal and went to the town portal to relight it for you, but it was fine. There is also no other sign of ghost damage around it (except for some old damage which I patched up while I was there).

On an unrelated note, I now have a town:

Oh. I was on mc.baf.cc or something. I thought BAF did the server. I was searching through the forums and I thought that was it... :)

What's our server? Is it actually allegro.cc? I don't know, I'm dumb enough to not know even if it were in this thread :/ I don't know why I never tried it.

I originally was looking for an ip address for a server but then I saw mc.baf.cc written out. Honest mistake.

Also, pretty town.

I missed you in IRC ...

To find the server(s), type:

?? minecraft

And an appropriate bot should answer. The response is a free-for-all, so heed caution, but it should be relatively reliable.

I just tried logging on to do some resource mining, but lag is currently making things unplayable.
