Author's Description: An arcade-style game for 1 or 2 players (splitscreen, cooperative or duel). It's sort of a cross between Spacewar and Centipede, if that makes any sense.

You fight your way through many levels full of strange creatures and machines, upgrading your chosen craft as you go along. The graphics and sounds are decidedly retro-arcade-style. It's hard, but you get better with practice.

It's covered by the GPL, so source is available. It was written for DOS/Win95 using DJGPP and no libraries other than Allegro. Graphics designed using the GIMP; sounds produced with Psycle.

If you like Lacewing, you might also like Overgod, which is written with more or less the same engine but has much better graphics. Go to the Depot section in my profile to find it.

Public Opinion
Overall Rating: 9.3
  • 8A bit overrated: needs more speed and better collision detection. Very hard, but upgrade system keeps you playing. Music sucks. Fun enemy design hurdles you into a psychedelic nightmare of hostility. NOTE: 2 player VS. and co-operative available.
  • 10Ok, I'll admit, this game is hard as nails, but at the same time it's balanced, fun and addictive. Plus its sheer variety of ships and powerups keeps you from playing it the same way twice! (My favourite ships are Aether Squid and Prong.)
  • 10Cool retro graphics and good sound effects. The game is highly polished and comes with a very nice highscores list. Above all, the gameplay is excellent (although I would have liked to be able to slide by default).

Linley HenzellNot much to put here. Writing games is fun. I don't have a proper website at the moment, so click on the Depot link above to see my Allegro games. (View Profile)
