I've read the article on wired and one paragraph caught my attention: Quote: So the charge was twofold: the new Xbox had to deliver enough horsepower to fuel a generation’s worth of gaming—but it also had to deliver everything else: live TV; an OS architecture that allows for smartphone-style multitasking; a new Kinect sensor that can handle hi-def Skype calls and monitor your heart rate
Other than that I'm not really moved. Its not like there are exciting things to expect; Nothing about going from PS1 to PS2 to PS3 was interesting, it was just about a stronger machine and a new game lineup. I'm not really excited about interacting with a console via a camera because it feels unnatural and awkward to interact with a machine by talking to it and gesturing to it. I also dislike wireless interface elements (ie wireless gamepads) because its a hassle to change/charge batteries and to suffer the added response time, though that isn't anything new. Also, driving around town blaring "XBOX, Shut Down" from my car speakers and listening for the screams of anguish sounds like it could be a fun new hobby ---- |

Maybe it's not such a problem where you're from, but I've heard of cases of people dying from playing too many games. Maybe they're planning on having the Xbox -- |

I find the name "One" to be hilarious. Dunno for latency, my wireless controls run just fine, I can't spot any difference between wireless and wired versions but inability of former to hang on their wire, which is often really handy. But instead, you can rotate it 360 in all directions and it won't knot up, you also wouldn't trip on it's wires. Batterries don't bother me. About time to introduce new consoles, at last. The ones we got are being outdated for years now. |

I haven't noticed latency with the PS3 controllers. And the batteries are rechargeable over USB, and you can continue to use them while charging (it's basically like converting into a wired controller). -- acc.js | al4anim - Allegro 4 Animation library | Allegro 5 VS/NuGet Guide | Allegro.cc Mockup | Allegro.cc <code> Tag | Allegro 4 Timer Example (w/ Semaphores) | Allegro 5 "Winpkg" (MSVC readme) | Bambot | Blog | C++ STL Container Flowchart | Castopulence Software | Check Return Values | Derail? | Is This A Discussion? I never owned one, so I'm not sure if the rechargeable ones where just you had to buy a rechargeable battery pack or if it was a different controller altogether from the ones that took batteries. I've always been happy with my PS3 controller, though. Can even use it on PC. -- |

Heart rate monitor might actually be useful for monitoring what stuff scares or excites people in games. A horror game could act as if it were sapient, slowly changing to scare the user more and more. Although I don't see such applications being used by companies any time soon.

Jeff Bernard said: But the USB cord the controller comes with is only like a foot long, not very useful for turning it into a wired controller (unless using it on PC where you're typically not very far from the hardware).
You could buy a 10' cord for like $10 - 20 though. -- acc.js | al4anim - Allegro 4 Animation library | Allegro 5 VS/NuGet Guide | Allegro.cc Mockup | Allegro.cc <code> Tag | Allegro 4 Timer Example (w/ Semaphores) | Allegro 5 "Winpkg" (MSVC readme) | Bambot | Blog | C++ STL Container Flowchart | Castopulence Software | Check Return Values | Derail? | Is This A Discussion? The 360 controllers had a pack thing, and officially there's two packs, one that took AA and a rechargeable one, which you charge either in a charging base, or with a cable you hooked up to the controller (like the PS3 USB charging cable, but the data lines on the USB end is only used to do the pairing for you, so you can change consoles/PCs with that controller easily. Too bad you have to buy a certain adapter to use the wireless controllers with a PC) --- |

Odd story about heart monitors. I was at the doctor's last month and was put on one. The nurse said my rate dropped from 120to 60 bpm and asked me if I felt it. I didn't. By reading this sig, I, the reader, agree to render my soul to Bob Keane. I, the reader, understand this is a legally binding contract and freely render my soul. |

Jeff Bernard said: Not all Xbox 2 controllers were rechargeable. They were all wireless and they were all rechargeable since forever. It's you just had to A) own recharge wire and B) own xbox controller accumulator pack. Naturally, if you used simple AA-batterries, you couldn't have them recharged. If you used AA-accumulators, you'd have to charge them with charger, like normal. Also, there's twin charger available for xbox accumulator packs, so you don't have to use the wire. Miquel Burns said: Too bad you have to buy a certain adapter to use the wireless controllers with a PC Yeah, Microsoft used vendor locks, i.e. controller actually sends input data through the cord, it's just the firmware trashes it so there's "no signal" and you'd have to buy the receiver. On the other hand, if you had the receiver, you could've simply connect up to 4 controllers to it like normal, with no mess of wires and no need to have USB hubs, so having people to buy it makes a lot of sense. After all, if they weren't needed wireless controller, they could've bought wired one. |

I think generation 5 consoles will be like credit card receiver ATM with no controls whatsoever but credit card reader, so in order to get an achievment, watch a cutscene and defeat a boss, you need to pay some bucks. Every time you do it, of course. |
