FIFA ranking sucks. Plainly.

I don't remember the last time an european country came to South America for a friendly game. However, south american countries always go to Europe. I cannot say about North and Central America countries, I think they play overseas against weak countries. That is why they are ranked so high.

In my opinion Czechs are again one of the top favourites, together with Portugal and Brazil and maybe Argentina.

Hmm.. I don't class Portugal as one of the top favourites. I'd put them in the second tier with Italy, France, Spain, Netherlands and England.

You could support your American neighbours. :)

They toot their own horn enough don't ya think ;)

It's great here though, lots of soccer fans because vancouver's population is so damn diverse. Iranians, australians, english, french, asians from every country, ukranians, brazilians, well you name it we got it and they all hold tight allegiances to their teams still.

Yeah, well, it's difficult to say exactly who has better chances. Probably those 5 countries + Protugal and Czech Republic are all in 2nd class together with Argentina, while Brazil is alone at the top and most others are in 3rd class execpt for a few exotic countries who don't even belong to the WC and are there just because of the rules (for example Trinidad and Tobago).

Today it begins! Let's see how Germany fear against Costa Rica! :)

My prediction: 0:0. Costa Rica will play defensively and Germany can't score goals.

On the other hand, if the Germans manage to score an early goal, it could go to 4:1 or something like that :)

They should beat Costa Rica, but they weren't in great form in their warm up games. I don't know if Costa Rica have enough attacking ability to cause Germany problems though..

Just over 3 hours to go..! :)

Incidentally Rey: The line-up for argentina's first game has been announced and it's a 4-4-2 formation.

Yeah. I thought we would be playing with a 3-5-2 instead. I still think the 4-4-2 is somewhat of a liar, because Sorin is everywhere.

My prediction for the first match: Germany 1 - Costa Rica 0.

18:06 - Wow, that was a beautiful goal for Germany! Only 6 minutes gone and already an awesome goal! It's looking good so far... :)

18:13 - OOh, that didn't last long. 1:1, there was no offside!

18:19 - 2:1 for Germany. That's a fast game!

18:48 - Got a little slow after the second German goal, so first half ends with 2:1 for Germany. :)

How much room do Germany have?? Amazing!

But their backline look very poor. They could be in real trouble against the top teams..

But it's been a good start!! :)

sigh Having to work at this time sucks :( I was not going to come, but then decided I prefered not to come when Argentina plays :)

19:31? It is 14:32 right now here. Why don't put match time (either 45' or 90' format) instead? It is more useful :)

Still time for another goal then. 5 goals for the first match, it is obvious the teams need to adjust a lot. Does Costa Rica deserve a draw already?

Yes, they scored 2 goals from 2 shots. That kind of efficiency deserves points. Germany on the other hand only scored 3 goals from 18 shots so far.

Do you want to increase your post count by posting about every goal in this match? ;)

(not to mention the coming matches)
