I've been getting nostalgic lately and I've want to find this old anime I watched when I was a little kid( around 8 or 9 maybe). I don't remember the name or any of the characters but I can remember the general story and some scenes( hope that helps). The intro had a scene of tanks on a highway fighting this huge bug( think ultralisk from SC) and then the highways collapsing. The general story was that an alien had come and destroyed human civilization leaving only a few survivors here and there. The leader of the aliens had his base in orbit around Earth and wore a black robotic suit. Somehow, the survivors had robotic suits( not mecha, just robotic suits) that gave the wearer super strength and the whole deal, they used these suits to fight the aliens( not sure if they fought bugs or other suits). But I do know that the alien leader would capture humans and enslave them to fight. He would stick them in suits just like the resistance( he enslaved them on his space hq and put em on earth). I only remember 2 scenes, so I'll try to be as specific as I can be. Humans are fighting the aliens with no hope of winning in the ruins of a city, so one fighter( in a pink suit) tells her friends to get away and she self-destructs killing everything around her. Another scene is where the humans get their hands on a nuke and plan on using on the alien hq( in space) but the fighters urge them not to because some humans are being held there. They somehow manage to get into the space base and find there comrades who are in the process of being brainwashed and put into suits. They encounter the leader which wears an all black suit( once again, robotic suits which are human size). I think this anime came out in the 80s but the animation was really good for it's time. I hope someone can give me some clues T_T, thanks, |

Robotech didn't have bugs now did it It took place only on earth(except for when they were in the alien base which is in orbit) if that helps any. |

Not Space Battleship Yamato a.k.a. Starblazers, was it? The plot is nowhere near what you described from what I know, but it's from about the same era... Edit: Gundam Seed is from 2002. -- |

The synopsis reminds me of an early 90's cartoon called ExoSquad. Not anime, but it sort of fits the description from what I remember.

Not Space Battleship Yamato, X-G. And not exo-squad either, I'm pretty sure it was anime and not some american cartoon. ST: Stop embarrasing yourself Is there a site that lists all anime that was dubbed and shown on american tv during the 90s? |

Hey I found a list of anime shows. Not sure if that's what your looking for but maybe it's on this list. If not then try searching google for 'anime +alien bug robot' or something along those lines. ---Allegro Version 4.2.0 (beta4) |

It's not Gatchaman is it? Tekkaman? Here's a link that lists some 70's and 80's anime: http://www.animenation.net/news/askjohn.php?id=275 -- |

My last guess: Tekkaman Blade a.k.a Teknoman? (Addendum: Exhaustive research found me this. Didn't see the above post. http://www.bobbergen.com/images/Teknoman05.jpg (More research makes me almost certain this is it. Hard work pays off!) -- |

Someone else pointed me to tekkaman as well, that's probally the best choice...I need to see the intro to know for sure( also need a lot more screen shots). I'll go google for some images now. I think it may be it but I need to see the intro to be sure(the pink suit looks like it may be it)... Thanks a lot kitty and X-G!! |

Sounds like he is talking about Gunbuster to me. But the only problem is that Gunbuster was only a 6 episode thing and spans 3 dvds now. But the storyline sounds identical to what you said. These are the only 80s animes I could find:
