Author's Description: Subsequent to the Microsoft Nuclear Power Plant Catastrophe of 2014, Ibiza is overrun by super-intelligent mutant squirrels. You, a lowly maintenance worker, have been trapped in the air ventilation system of a small nightclub for several days. You are desperately hungry. You have with you a device known as the 'Relatively Harmless Rubber Ball Launcher', with which you are to kill the squirrels, before eating them and proceeding to the next club. But watch out! If you wait too long, the dogs, who serve as bouncers, will come in and get you...

Confused? Good. Read the in-game introduction. The keys you need are the arrow keys, Space and Enter (and Esc to pause or exit).

Worried about me for having conceived such an idea? Well you'll be glad to hear this wasn't my idea. It was the product of the ideas of most of the entrants to IdeaHack. Hooray, half the Allegro community has gone mad :D

Features:

- 320x200 8-bit graphics (yeah? So I wanted to do some pixel art in the precious little time I had. So there. Don't turn it down just because it doesn't use your uber1337 supported-by-Micro$oft(R)-Windows(R)-only(R) 3D(R) card(R) :P)
- parallax scrolling on the air vent maps
- nightclub lighting inside the clubs*
- crazy ping pong ball engine - gotta see it to believe it! :)
- two cut-scenes, featuring Mario, Luigi and a spoof of The Matrix
- cheat codes
- a guest star from allegro.cc :)

HINT: if you think you're old enough, check readme.txt for the cheat code that enables the swearwords, and use it before you start playing ;)

I've linked to the IdeaHack website. From there, go to the Results section, and Ibiza Insurgency will be available from there. You need ibiza.zip. You can also get ibiza.exe if you like. ibiza.exe will not work by itself.

The 'download' link above goes straight to ibiza.zip.

The source code does not compile on M$VC at the moment. M$VC will complain about the keyword 'inline', which you can safely remove. It will also have a fit over a goto label; fix this by putting a semicolon (;) after the label, in addition to the colon (:). It should look like this (and no I can't remember what the label is called at the moment):

label:;

*THE WARNING ABOUT STROBE LIGHTING IS SERIOUS. DO NOT DISMISS IT AS A JOKE! MOST PEOPLE DO!!!!11`AHAHAHAHAHAHA

Public Opinion
Overall Rating: 7.3
  • 6A maze-based game with little variation and way too few levels. I did like the silly plot the game is based on.
  • 6It's a short, silly game with just enough gameplay to get by. You should play it at least once.
  • 10Fun game! Its a little too short, and would likely get repetative if it were any longer, but I had fun with it. The lighting effects and the ball physics in the night clubs was impressive. Good job.
The Developer
Bruce Perry
Bruce PerryA game developer at heart, I have been writing games with Allegro since 1999, and I have unfinished projects aplenty to show for it. I care very much about the quality of my games and what people think of them, so please do leave opinions on this site or send comments to me. I graduated from Cambridge University UK in Computer Science in June 2004. I did Geology in my first year there, which was fun. I took French A-level at school, and as of summer 2003 I am learning Japanese by self-study (while trying not to forget my French). I used to study art, and I still try my hand at it from time to time. I play the piano and compose music. As of August 2004 I am working as a Mini-Games Developer for a very nice company in Cambridge. (View Profile)
