IOTD: B.R. Project (no more tiles)
B.R. Project (no more tiles)
B.R. Project (no more tiles), by Paul whoknows

Finally I decided not to use tiles for my main project, this way I'll be able to design custom backgrounds for every levels. I think it starting to look good, opinions and criticism are welcomed.

Looking good. The center building makes the perspective surreal (which is cool, if you're going for it).

- Ben Delacob

Now that you mentioned, the center building was rendered using the wrong camera position, thanks for pointing it out :)

Looks great. If you aren't using tiles how is it made? Is it procedurally generated or just a large bitmap that's saved?

- someone972

Thanks. It's a large bitmap saved, the grass effect was done in Photoshop CS using several layers and filters, then at the end I applied a light source.

Looking good. Hmmm.... If you want I can share some bits of code that do 2d dynamic per-pixel lighting. You just need a bitmap and a bumpmap and one or multiple lightsources. Look at my site to see what I mean http://fireflies.pl/
I can tweak it to HDR-like lighting (every pixel is a light source) but that would make it extreeeeeeeeeemely slow (it's getting choppy with 8 lights at 160x120 resolution, but i'm on EEE pc)
Just drop me a msg if you want to.

- charnooh

That looks great :) But how will you handle large maps? I think they'll be slow...

@charnooh I would like to see that code...
