IOTD: Allegro.pas 4.3.0 SVN on GNU/Linux
Allegro.pas 4.3.0 SVN on GNU/Linux
Allegro.pas 4.3.0 SVN on GNU/Linux, by Niunio

Finally, and after 3 months of intermitent work, there are some examples of Allegro.pas that compiles and runs on GNU/Linux. This screen shot was taken few minutes ago.

This new release introduces a slightly different API, more Pascal-like and with less pointers. A new Grabber application designed with the great Lazarus IDE is in development too. At this moment it can load a DAT file and show the objects in a beautiful interactive tree. The final package will have UNICODE support, a feature that wasn't supported on previous releases.

There's a lot of work to do before the first beta. A lot of documentation to write. A lot of tests to check. A lot of mistakes to fix. But I think it worth the effort. Allegro is a great game library and Object Pascal is a nice and powerful language.

Right now the project need testers for Windows systems. Currently it doesn't support other operating systems, but I'm open to any collaboration. You can get the current status and follow the development from the SVN repository.
