Here we list great threads

Ok, it's simple. I'll list here some great threads that I think are hilarious to read, and you're free to propose another one or comment on it. So, here we go:

Shaw's Nightmare, just a regular noob thread right? Wait until you read this:

LennyLen said:

Why the fuck does it say "LennyLen and mickey86 present..?" Please remove my name from it immediately.

A true Master of MS Paint, nothing wrong with the OP, but the excessive derailment of this thread even takes place in the first page!

Onewing said:

Because it is a pthread: a thread for me to pee on.

Representing a math problem. What? How could a math problem provoke a religious debate of over 9 pages? Especially if the OP turns into some weird religious spambot!

Matthew Leverton said:

I love you. You're like one of those children's toys: you pull a string, and the arrow spins around, and it says something based on whatever position it lands on. "For it is written, Moooooo. A cow says Moooooo."

Your new favorite programmer, what's better than when the person being talked about comes into the thread and starts posting? Being this person a girl, you can expect Allegro.cc to go crazy for it(even demanding to show pics?). What even if a so-called news reporter offers to make an Allegroite comment on TV?

Quote:

My name is Peter and I am a segment producer for Channel 9 News in Secaucus, NJ. You may know us as "My9". We are doing a human interest story on women making their way in the Web 2.0 world, and Sara will be one of the people we're focusing on. We also have a 14-yr-old from Westfield, NJ who created a super cool Facebook support group for young teen girls with body issues.

Add your own favorite threads!
EDIT: And feel free to add those piccolo's threads as well, I couldn't track the best one.

This is the only one I have bookmarked.

I just remembered these were hilarious as well. There was one where I think bamccaig was e-mailed a pic from an asian chick.

Agreed, though I laughed(for real) when I was reading the part I mentioned.

Two threads I remember but can't find are the "milk thread" and the thread where manjula was posting on another board defending attacks on the "lame allegro" people.

Any logo thread is enjoyable. Piccolo threads are always a treat.

The Monday thread...

But that Shaw's Nightmare... that may be my favorite. ;D

Mm, apparently Sara Chipps was real. Despite my uncertainty of that fact.

Is New York where all the girl programmers go?

All the pages on her site have a 99% bounce rate, except her "about" page ;D

For reference, that thread earned me a post cap of five posts per any thread for like a year.

My dreams are funner than programming. I once dreamed that I was throwing eggs at Linus Torvalds...

I missed the perfect chance to say I dreamed of throwing pie at Bill Gates! :-[

SaraJo: Welcome to Allegro.cc - we like cats and we like to send threads spinning wildly off-topic.

I believe something like that and many of the posts submitted above makes this forum a mild version of 4chan. ;D

......... How many topics in the Off-Topic Discussion actually start off with good intentions and then just go down hill from there?

"* Entoutcas has quit IRC (Quit: And the Lord said unto John; Come forth and receive eternal life. But John came fifth and won a toaster...)"
"I was in a casino, minding my own business, and this guy came up to me and said, 'You're gonna have to move. You're blocking a fire exit.' As though if there was a fire, I wasn't gonna run. If you're flammable and have legs, you are never blocking a fire exit... ...Unless you're a table."
-Mitch Hedberg (R.I.P.)
"Quit: (+[WG]sPiKie) (Math problems? Call 1-800-[(10x)(13i)^2]-[sin(xy)/2.362x].)"

I don't think any threads in Off-Topic start with good intentions.

Errr, let me rephrase:

How many topics that were moved to the Off-Topic Discussion actually start off with good intentions and then just go down hill from there?

hahahahahaha I'm freaking out!

You should create a TV show!

I missed the perfect chance to say I dreamed of throwing pie at Bill Gates!

That is because he never heard the says: "Some spend their entire life dreaming, instead, other, live their dreams" Or something like that. :P

Here's some of my faves.

*The 2007 Valentine's thread. Starts off nice and clean, goes a bit off-colour and then ends up nice and clean again. It is in this thread that Allegro's unofficial mascot is introduced.
*The "Draw A Thing" Thread. Towards the end, we come up with images conveying what we really think of when we visualise Allegro commands. [EDIT: I've started a sequel here]
*"Phipps Day" - when we all made out Avatars look like some variation of Richard Phipps's avatar. The fun even spilled over into this thread.

And back in the mists of time when I was nowt but a wee lurker, there was a thread where we gave Mysha a goatee.

A few people have linked to their favourite threads in the Allegro '06 Awards thread.

Here's my You know you've been on Allegro.cc too long when... thread (I can't but help think that someone made a more recent one but I can't find it).

The Allegro.cc drinking game.

the "milk thread"

Another gem I never read. :)

The only thing about these threads is that they just sort of taper off... like a post-McDonalds errand to the bathroom. There's seldom any resolution.
