Fine, then I'll just say "Hurr hurr camera... 3.2 mega-pixels... Shiny!" is as far as my understanding goes in the field of cameras.
One day when I'll have lots of money I'll buy an awesome cam and take awesome pictures. (Or perhaps you should replace "take awesome pictures" with "capture awesome holo-sceneries")

Even your camera is capable of taking nice pictures. You just have to know a few things first. Reading the manual helps ;)

Not counting the ones I've posted before (and the Ukraine/Chernobyl pictures* I still haven't reviewed 100%):
{"name":"P9230091.JPG","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/2\/b\/2b12acc23ccc2a83ea2a4fa3f4a0543a.jpg","w":1024,"h":768,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/2\/b\/2b12acc23ccc2a83ea2a4fa3f4a0543a"}P9230091.JPG

  • Basically the only post-"decent camera" pictures of mine. ;)

FrankyR: I noticed that you have a Nikon D80. Are you at all familiar with the D40X? I was looking at the specs and they appear to be identical, with the exception that the D80 costs more. I admit I have not done much research into the matter, but I was wondering if you had any insights as to what makes your model more desirable.

I went outside today to take some pictures with my poopy Nikon Coolpix L3. This is the best one, and it didn't come out as I hoped it would:

Hey Harry, I'd be glad to outline a few of the differences that I know about. I'm just writing all of the differences that I'm aware of, so I'm not trying to sound petty by bringing up trivial differences :).

  • The biggest difference is that the D40x doesn't have an internal focusing motor, so that means in order for auto focus to work the lens must have its own. This isn't a problem for most newer lenses, but it means that older lenses (non AF-S or AF-I lenses) won't be able to auto focus.

  • The D40 has 3 auto focus points compared to 11 in the D80.

  • When viewing pictures taken on the lcd, the D40x's histogram view shows only the luminance histogram, while the D80's shows the luminance, plus the red, green and blue histograms (I use this feature a lot).

  • The D80 introduced a feature that allows you to optically trigger the SB-600 or SB-800 (flashes) by using the camera's built in flash. Basically the camera makes a bunch of really fast low-power flashes that the off-camera flash detects and interprets. I don't think the D40x can do that. Nikon calls it the CLS (Creative Lighting System)

  • Two ergonomic differences: the D40x has a slightly smaller viewfinder (trivial) and it only has one command dial on the right side. You use the same dial for adjusting shutter speed and aperture by pressing a modifier button whereas the D80 has two dials.

Other than these differences I think the cameras are essential the same sensor/performance wise.

(BTW, I love my D80 :))

I've got a kodak camera that takes 12 Megapixels pictures (4:3). It's got a setting for 16:9 at 9 megapixels. I'm not really a photography buff myself, so I don't really know what a good setting is.

I did find out I could do panoramic photos with my camera and I hope to try it out when I go to Sea World tomorrow. ;D

That was only one of the things I meant. Unfortunately the only hot girl I would be interested in photographing has recently used those terrible words, "Let's just be friends." So I guess I meant something else.

you could still take her picture anyway.
( and post it here, so we can see if we want her mail adress :P)

by the way, with girls photographing some cute animal works better than photographing her. ;D;)

@ Onewing: use a zoomlens for animals !!

While she would probably let me take her picture if I asked, I'm sorry to say I wouldn't post it online.

I really must make me a site where to show all my best pictures ...
The following (except the one from FMC) are resized to 50% of the original size (less big and still having a good look).

FMC: That is the best I can do in 5 minutes.

Anyway here I come:

It looks like I did not make some clean in my ftp so if some of you are not bored by some few GB archive download, I gave you these for your pleasure. I got a lot more and (I hope) better things, but still no website ...

I can also give you the technique.
You must know that program called paint.net, in the last update they add two nifty effect which I translate into "give more detail" and "kill the noise".

After what all is a question of value and order, some picture will need more detail before noise reduction, and other the contrary.

The noise killer have two parameter to play with:
-the size of the matrix
-the power of the effect

My tip is the following: zoom to 100% on a very noised part
play with the size and power to have the desired effect.

Well, there I admit that the tip is nasty as there no rule: play with the value and see.

Can't you just resize the images so that they fill just the screen, say 1024 or 1280 pixels width? Or is 2000 pixel widths normal nowadays.

I already have resized them by a half, my camera take 3888x2592 pictures.

Anyway that one made me laugh (hey grandma ;-p)
