About 35%, but my income is low. I spend more on food than I do on accommodations.

17% of my after tax income is spent on housing. 10% before taxes. I rent, don't own. |

I spend approximately per month: $550 on rent and utilities, $120 on food, $50 on cable Internet/TV, $25 on gas (for my car), and $5 on my Skype phone. I cannot really give a percentage since my monthly income is often nothing. |

I pay ~30%, I share a house with my brother, so if I was up for all the rent, it would be over half my income, but Melbourne is one of the cheaper places to live in Aus, that I am renting from my step-dad which helps a heap. If I was paying the going market is about $370 a fortnight for a house. (US$335 or £168.13) ____________________________________________________________________________________________ |

Between 16% and 24% of my monthly income on rent/utilities. (Heat is expensive.) Why do you ask? __________________________________________________ |

About 25% on my rent. Add on utilities and everything else to that and its probably closer to 30%. I pay more than I'd like for rent, but then again I chose an apartment where I can walk to work, so I save on gas money. |

I've converted to USD. Figures are per month. Rent: $250 Total: $425 Income after tax: $2370 So it comes to about 18% I haven't included cell phone costs, as my girlfriend usually pays for mine through online banking. My food costs are also pretty low now as I get free food at work.

Yet 600$ rent seems more than nearly everyone else here who are renting an apartment. Normally people pay less rent for living at home. |
