I had a biking accident!

Hi everybody! I'm currently writing this with two broken arms - it goes a bit slower than usual ...

Well, as the title says, I had a bicycle accident. It happened when I drove down a street and suddenly I saw a well-hidden wrinkle in the ground (I should add that the wrinkle was quite deep!). My front wheel "got stuck" in the wrinkle, and I got catapulted with ~30 km/h into/onto the ground.
Fortunately there was somebody who saw me, and he called the hospital - that was the last thing I saw, then I became unconscious ...

I woke up in the clinic, got bandages for both arms, then there came my family and my friend (I had invited him to come to my house that day). About midnight I was operated and the doctors told me the results of my crash:

- two broken arms
- two teeth lost
- two teeth damaged a bit
- big wounds in the face
- concussion of the brain

- bicycle not very damaged, the backlight has broken down
- my glasses are unusable

All in all, not too bad. :-/ ;) At least I can still smile here.

I stayed in hospital for two full days - I got visited a lot, so that was nice. Today I got released, but I have to go to the hospital in one week again for another operation.

Problems will start when school begins, because doctors told me I had to keep the bandages for six weeks, and then I get some metal stuff for my right arm - so probably no (written) school tests for me till Christmas! :o

My arms start hurting, so I'll stop now. I can attach a picture of me later, but currently the battery of the camera is empty. [EDIT] Photo is attached in my second post.

Wish me good luck!

Yes, but not always ... :-/

Photo is attached, but don't view it if you can't see wounds.

Indeed. Did you wear a helmet?

I had a biking accident last year too but I was much more lucky. I drove around 30km/h and slammed straight into a car that was nearly stopped. I flew head on into the windshield. Thaks to the helmet I only got a few bruises. The reinforced front wheel broke and so did the fork.

Ouch. that looks painful. I had a similar accident. Only with a bike. And without broken bones. Or lost teeth. Or severely hurt face. But man, this those scrapes hurt!

EDIT: oh, and also; Get better!

Hehe, your glasses haven't broke, haven't they? ;)
But I agree, a bikini accident would have been better. ;D

Nej, and it wouldn't have helped here probably anyway ...

Be happy. ;)

My arms hurt too much to answer the other two responses.

Quick, dial 1-800-lawyersrus ;)

But yes, we need photos and details on how you will go to the toilet and choke your chicken.

My worst bike accidents only made a few scrapes.
I never crashed at high speeds.

A helmet protects your head quite nicely. I'm sure you'd be a lot better off had you been wearing one. Your arms would still be broken, of course, but you might still have your teeth.

So the questions are: will you still ride a motorcycle after this? And if so, will you invest in a helmet?

Motorcycle? D:

Haha, I read it as 30 miles per hour, which is pretty fast for a normal bicycle. ;) He also wrote "drove" as opposed to "rode" and it had a "backlight," so I assume it was a regular motorcycle. Anyway, if it was a normal bicycle, then that's a rather rough injury for something that was self-inflicted.

I hope you'll be better soon, and I wish you luck with the second operation!

I'd count that as Germanisms. "Driving" (as in driving a car) and "riding" (as in riding a bike) translate to the same German word "fahren", so that's where that might come from. Same goes for the "backlight" ("Rücklicht").

I've had lots of wrecks on my bicycle and never broke any bones, and then I slipped on the ice one time and broke my leg, weird.

Where I used to live a guy died when he was riding around after dark and rode off a 2 ft (~.5 m ?)high embankment. He landed on his head, no helmet. I got a concussion one time when wrecked on a busy street. After that I always wear a helmet.

The worst I've ever been through is a couple stitches. I can't imagine having broken bones!

I have nosebleeds ALL THE TIME. It's annoying considering my girlfriend has a case of hemophobia (is that even a word?).
I think we are digressing from the subject :)
