I had a biking accident! |

That sucks... get better soon! On the topic of helmets... the only people wearing helmets while cycling here tend to be foreigners, or people on a race bike. Mind you, cyclists are probably better off in terms of roads and rights here than most other places, which I'm sure helps. I've slipped a few times on my bike, once when it was raining (my front wheel got warped in the fall), once when there was ice on the road (no damage, but the person behind me slipped too when she needed to break) and I got my front wheel stuck in the track of the tram twice as well. Oh, and I once ran into a car that didn't give me right of passage. The car lost its hubcap and drove on without slowing down, I had nothing. EDIT Quote: It's annoying considering my girlfriend has a case of hemophobia (is that even a word?). I'd expect it to be spelled haemophobia, but I don't know. It's clear what it means though. Being a girl with haemophobia has to suck badly at least once per month. |

Thanks for all kind replies! I see people here have had lots of accidents too, so I don't feel alone. About the "drive" vs. "ride": I found it strange to write "I rode down the street", because, as Tobias said, you say it differently in German (but I knew that "drive" wasn't the right word). After reading your helmet-related replies I will now really consider to wear such a device, but it will take some time to get on a bicycle anyway, so I will have plenty of time to buy a helmet. Thanks again for your replies, they mean a lot to me! -- |

Holy shit dude! Glad to hear you're at least good enough to write. The worst bike accident i had was similar but i was going much slower and i sacked myself on the handlebar. ps: ------------- |

Quote: A helmet protects your head quite nicely. I'm sure you'd be a lot better off had you been wearing one. Your arms would still be broken, of course, but you might still have your teeth. I disagree. Helmets do diddly-squat to protect your teeth (I can't think of any bicycle helmet design that sticks out enough in front to prevent your teeth from hitting the ground). What they do is protect old people from cracking their skulls. That's it. -- |

When I made that post I was referring to a motorcycle helmet. |

30km/h Ive had a lot of bike crashes at nothing under 75km/h i never broke any bones i almost got impaled but it got stop about an inch in. i got hit from the side by a women who ran a light in a grey car. my helmet saved my life that time. i felt the impact on the back of my head. if i did not have my helmet i would have had a soft spot in the back of my head. [edit] i just saw the pic. it looks like your healing up pretty fas:ot. wow |

Ouch! With my luck, I could come off things like that without much damage, maybe just a bruise or something. I should be dead considering how many times I hit my head alone actually. --- |

30km/h Haha ... if you knew how much milk I usually drink, you would not have written this statement! 75 km/h? You usually only get this when the street is very steep ... Quote: i just saw the pic. it looks like your healing up pretty fas:ot. Yes, I'm pretty happy about that. I thought that too .. until now. @Thomas: That's great stuff! Quote: How are you typing?!! See Gnolam's post. I can move my fingers quite well, but most of the arm is covered with bandages. -- |

Well, dae ja vu, had an accident myself on 26th of July... Got 23 stitches, dissolvable and non dissolvable, both... Had the accident exactly the same way u had except that it was raining and as it was 4 in the morning there was no one and had to walk around 1.5 kilometres to reach the hospital by myself... feel low at times but then, its k, i just cant turn the clock... and in any case, its good to have a scar before u die... Here's a pic in the attachment of me two weeks after the accident... I recovered and healed real fast... Two Golden Rules of life- Firstly, I'm always right and secondly, if you think otherwise, slap your face and read rule number one again! |

I fell when I was rollerblading in July. My shoulder still hurts, but that was nothing compared with what you've been through. And what's wrong with me? I had no problem reading 'biking' as 'biking' the first time, but since someone mentioned bikini, every time I see this thread topic, I read bikini. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Years of thorough research have revealed that what people find beautiful about the Mandelbrot set is not the set itself, but all the rest. |

I'm starting to wonder what's wrong with me. I never read it as bikini. Marcello |

Consider in one event I had hit my head twice in the course of one fall (the first time took a 2 by 4 board out of this 4 by 4 post it was nailed to). I think that fall is the reason there's a dent on the back of my head. --- |
