You'd spend hours getting the materials, not making the sword.
If you can make the sword at all. Since that would require that you have the right job and the right skill in it.

I'll walk down from Stormwind to Booty Bay today. I want to get a Parrot pet and that fishing book. I think I'll actually buy more than one pet and more than one book. Let's see how well they sell in IF

Walking down to BB at my pretty low level could become quite an adventure ... heh.

And paying for services in game isn't that confusing. It would save you hours of work earning items yourself. I don't do it, but I don't see how it's "absurd" ...

Time is money. If you have money, but no time, (or vice-versa) it makes sense to convert it into another form.

I was in the Stone Talon Mountains and Sun Rock got raided by at least 27 (!) (L50+) people. But I got the last laugh because I picked off a level 16 when they weren't looking (I was 20 or so).

p.s. I really like it when a high level alliance just passes me by with no more than a wave. It makes me want to do the same when I see someone else in the same situation.

Problem is you can't sell WoW items or money. It's against Blizzard's policies. So...good luck with that.
