Author's Description: Blue Meanies from Outer Space is a remake of an old Commodore VIC-20 game of the same name. You must defend your base against attacking Meanies (from outer space, of course!) as they attempt to wear down your base's defenses.
The game is a near-perfect conversion. I've added new features in an attempt to give it a bit more gameplay, as the original BASIC game was fairly simple. Now, you can rebuild your lasers and different types of Meanies will attack, plus there are levels to progress through.

What's New:
1.00 OSX
Version 1.00 OSX now supports, well, Mac OSX! I've ported the game over to Mac OSX and it works fine. Just drag-n-drop the game into your applications folder, it takes care of everything from there.
Note: The game doesn't work too well on the Powerbooks -- Because it requires a keypad. You can play, but have to use the Fn key, so it's annoying. Also, for some reason the latest WIP of Allegro has a problem with the KEY_DEL_PAD binding, so I've had to move the rebuild laser command to the KEYPAD ENTER key. Otherwise, the game plays identical to the PC version.

Public Opinion Overall Rating: 6.0 6The pauses between shots didn't bother me, but I wonder why there are separate controls to shoot left and right lasers. Didn't seem to make any difference to me. Would have been nice to be able to configure them too. Having them all on the right side was a bit awkward. The game is nicely polished, but the gameplay is average. Fairly original, though. Perhaps another element or two, and a highscores list, and it would be perfect. 8Technically very well done, but the gameplay is seriously compromised by the short pauses at every shot... 4I haven't played the original game, so the remake value can not be considered by me. The game stops for a while after each laser shot, which i think degrades the action value. Some nice graphics though and polished with a nice menu etc.
