[PS3] Skyrim DLC - Finally |

I've been lackluster to play Skryim on the PS3 because of hearing that DLC wouldn't be coming to PS3 at all. Was getting tired of Bethesda pulling that, but finally got some great news (granted it may be slow). Just found out today that the DLC will come to PSN during the span of 3 weeks and be 50% off for the first week of each. Finally don't feel like I was getting screwed by Bethesda or like they were playing favorites for 360 users. For those who have been interested, but gave up on watching their blogs. Dragonborn releases Tuesday, February, 12

I can't imagine playing Skyrim on any console. It must suck. First-person does not lend itself well to "sticks". Besides, Skyrim is so buggy that you basically need the developer console to get you by on several occasions. -- acc.js | al4anim - Allegro 4 Animation library | Allegro 5 VS/NuGet Guide | Allegro.cc Mockup | Allegro.cc
Tag | Allegro 4 Timer Example (w/ Semaphores) | Allegro 5 "Winpkg" (MSVC readme) | Bambot | Blog | C++ STL Container Flowchart | Castopulence Software | Check Return Values | Derail? | Is This A Discussion? My brother-in-law would argue the reverse. He absolutely can't handle keyboard+mouse controls in almost ANY game. I've even watched him attempt it... it's... actually really embarassing. I definitely am a keyboard+mouse kinda guy though, but in developing my next game I intend to have joystick, gamepad and 360 controller support all the same. --- Kris Asick (Gemini) |

Don't know, I have no problem playing either, but I could care less about the control method in games. As for modding, I tried several Fallout 3 mods, and honestly none of them impressed me. Not paid any attention to the Skyrim mods though.

I think the only drawback from playing Skyrim on console is mod availability, since it seems it was designed taking a gamepad in mind. I'll get the DLC unless a GOTY edition is released for 360. I already own Skyrim for PS3, though it's buggier than the 360's version. |

I think the controls lend themselves well to a mouse. I can't imagine how that would work on a console, unless they've changed the control scheme and/or gave you "auto" functionality. I started playing Dragonborn last night. I had to restart Steam before it would begin the download, but thankfully it downloaded fast. -- acc.js | al4anim - Allegro 4 Animation library | Allegro 5 VS/NuGet Guide | Allegro.cc Mockup | Allegro.cc
Tag | Allegro 4 Timer Example (w/ Semaphores) | Allegro 5 "Winpkg" (MSVC readme) | Bambot | Blog | C++ STL Container Flowchart | Castopulence Software | Check Return Values | Derail? | Is This A Discussion? After playing with the two styles of controls(although admitting that I only played the PC version for, like, two and a half hours, on a friend's computer), I personally prefer the 360 Version I have home. Elder Scrolls is not about aiming, it's about moving(And guard-hitting, heh), and nothing controls movement better than a good analog stick. FPSs, however, play much better using keyboard-mouse controls. The mouse is ridiculously more precise for aiming.
I still like Oblivion more

Oblivion was great, and having Patrick Stewart didn't hurt none

I had the misfortune of playing the PS3 port of Skyrim not too long ago. The frame rate stuttered like an epileptic watching Pokemon, and whoever designed the menus should have the skin flayed from their bones. Yuck. I'm surprised a GOTY edition hasn't been released yet. --> |

Actually the menus on PC suck too. You end up doing way too much scrolling... The only mods to fix that appear to require you installing dependency mods that aren't on Nexus (for unknown reasons) so I've been skeptical of them, but it badly needs a menu overhaul... Actually the PC users blame the console ports for the menu failure. -- acc.js | al4anim - Allegro 4 Animation library | Allegro 5 VS/NuGet Guide | Allegro.cc Mockup | Allegro.cc
Tag | Allegro 4 Timer Example (w/ Semaphores) | Allegro 5 "Winpkg" (MSVC readme) | Bambot | Blog | C++ STL Container Flowchart | Castopulence Software | Check Return Values | Derail? | Is This A Discussion? I liked the minimalistic HUD, though I'd liked even more if it had quick item/weapon selection as in Oblivion via D-Pad. The PS3 controller makes it even worse because mine just started failing when pressing L3 button (for stealth). Apparently, there's a pretty common issue on PS3 controllers that makes random inputs when you press L3 button. It obviously applies for any game. Like when I'm playing an FPS and I start shooting, jumping and throwing grenades instead running. |

I wish I could make hotkeys to anything in the menu, like, hold lb + some sequence I enter. Going through the menu always felt like a chore to me and killed any form of "action" that might be happening. ------------ |

Search Nexus for SkyUI. -- acc.js | al4anim - Allegro 4 Animation library | Allegro 5 VS/NuGet Guide | Allegro.cc Mockup | Allegro.cc
Tag | Allegro 4 Timer Example (w/ Semaphores) | Allegro 5 "Winpkg" (MSVC readme) | Bambot | Blog | C++ STL Container Flowchart | Castopulence Software | Check Return Values | Derail? | Is This A Discussion? I don't remember Oblivion's menus being a pain in the arse, so they must have been decent enough. It has been about five years though--plenty of time to forget I'm not really sure if I'm sold on the map either (Skyrim, that is). Maybe I'm spoiled by Fallout 3's comparably excellent map. bamccaig said: Search Nexus for SkyUI. Oh wow... yeah, that does look nice. --> |

The local maps in Skyrim are indeed pretty terrible. The world map isn't bad, but the local maps are next to useless. -- acc.js | al4anim - Allegro 4 Animation library | Allegro 5 VS/NuGet Guide | Allegro.cc Mockup | Allegro.cc
Tag | Allegro 4 Timer Example (w/ Semaphores) | Allegro 5 "Winpkg" (MSVC readme) | Bambot | Blog | C++ STL Container Flowchart | Castopulence Software | Check Return Values | Derail? | Is This A Discussion?
