Anyone remember this game for the Tandy Color Computer 2? It was probably one of the first 3D games (as 3D as you could get on 1982 technology), this spawned a whole genre of similar games in the 80s and 90s with the "3D" dungeon crawlers. This was my favourite though, it really sparked my imagination in programming. I was surprised to find out the source code had been generously released many years ago to someone (and the public at large) and the game had been ported to the PC. The source code for the port is freely available with the port when you download it. It's in C++ and seems to be very nicely written and easy to understand with lots of comments. Dungeons of Daggorath PC-Port Project - Downloads Perhaps this is old news to some, it's new to me. Was fun to play this again, even though the tech is old, it's still a good game. The source comes with a Dev-C++ project as well as Visual Studio project files, is written using SDL so is probably quite portable. An interesting note is the random number generator it uses. {"name":"603843","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/1\/0\/1050d34ea35711efa28746a61275964c.gif","w":320,"h":240,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/1\/0\/1050d34ea35711efa28746a61275964c"} I am thinking of creating my own version of this, not the same game, but something similar, the same style of dungeon. --- |
