The graphics are great, but the gameplay looks like it sucks.

The gameplay is actually really good. The video that I posted is based entirely on FMV sequences and I think the dialog is mixed and matched. The game is awesome, but only if you like sandbox games like that.

I liked the riot aspect -- the people around you getting mad about you stealing their cars? That's an interesting feature.

I don't really know what you're talking about. :P The actual driver of a car has always had a chance of getting aggressive when you steal a car in GTA. I haven't really experienced riots. One or two bystanders will occasionally step in when you assault somebody though. There's also the possibility of interfering with an actual gang, in which case all nearby gang members usually join in trying to kill you. That too isn't a new feature and has been around pretty much since the original.

I like how the cuss words are censored... but the violence? yea that's fine.

@mabmab

Got it who's Niko, but no clue why would a Russian guy have a not-Russian name. Regarding the gang members trying to kill you- well, that feature is clearly implemented in the above vid as well ;)

@molang
No idea what's your piano about :[

Append:

I like how the cuss words are censored... but the violence? yea that's fine.

Russian language is different from English, these words are considered a lot harsher than f words in the U.S, practically English is considered a "swearing free" langauge by Russians, as there's no even appropriate word to translate the category of swearing in Russian. There are several degrees, while "damn" & "shit" maybe fine(although of course aren't "nice words") I'd consider'em to same degree as the word "fuck" in English, where there are others which are a level worse.

Append1:
This one is probably from some news channel, where any level of violance and whatever can take place(in certain cases there maybe a warning to pull kids away and/or not to watch for people with various issues seeing harsh things), but there's set of words that must not sound, perhaps there are even civil laws enforcing it.

Append2:
Wow, cool, I thought there gotta be an article to describe it.. Not like it gives an in-depth understanding of the phenomena, but oh well ;D

Wikipedia said:

use of mat in public constitutes a form of disorderly conduct, punishable under article 20.1.1 of the Offences Code of Russia

Yikes!

Heh, most of those words are sexual in context.

I still think the whole thing is silly. Far worse "things" can be said with other words than the weight you get from a simple cuss word. It's just out of balance.

Everyone has the right to have his own opinion, but your literally out of information.. Lacking just a language and a culture familiarity ;)

And well.. Freedom of speech, is one thing while the forms of the speech are another.

lol.. 're indeed ;D

Append1:
I've never heard any punishments being given for it(unless it's in school or something).. It's more like.. I don't know how to explain..

Perhaps this woud reflect large chunk of state of things:
If you're offending someone, you're most likely being very emotional. The мат allows the "top" emotionality, while if not used it means you're actually remaining in control, and hence you're nothing to be punished for :P

I'm confused :[

@Oktak I can hardly believe a modern game can have such a terrible graphic. Back in 2003.

Russia is one hell of a drug. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-ECMTNcewI

Anyone care to explain what happened in that video, that justified a mob, and what seemed to be the police, going all caveman on that guy?

It's absolutely clearly Russian accent. At least so it very boldly seems, and among those "recognizable accents", e.g. French, British, this one is sure Russian..

Append: Oh well, Serbian.. Let it be then :s

Apparently he speaks serbian, not russian and is only hinted of being from the somewhere in the Balkans. Also his name looks like a serbian one. (Have you ever heard of a russian last name ending in a C or a serbian name not ending in a C? I haven't.)

And yes, it is a big deal. In real life, if you confuse a serb with a russian or the other way around, the russian will only beat you up and break some of your bones[1], but the serb will kill you.
