As to law, there is a thing popularly called "age of concent". According to the Wikipedia it turns out it is not 18 in all states of the US, and people just think it is because their law knowledge is derived from Hollywood films which represent only California state law. So study your local legislation and don't worry about 17 years and 364 days so much. In my country the age of concent is 14 (if it hasn't been recently raised). The variations in legislation of various countries probably reflects the ratio of pedophiles / religious fanatics in lobby groups. |

It might be, but if its anything like my province, that only applies to other kids up to 4 years older than the concenter(?). A person 19+ getting caught diddling a 14 year old here could still get in trouble if the parents or police really want to pursue it. -- |

Using the strict definition of a paedophile (which is someone with a sexual attraction to prepubescent children), one of them would have certainly have no interest in a 17 year old, and probably not a 14 year old either. edit: the terms hebephile and ephebophile are used to describe those sexually attracted to 11-14 and 14-17 years olds respectively.

According to Wikipedia: "The age of consent is the minimum age at which a person is considered to be legally competent of consenting to sexual acts." Naturally this doesn't cover cases where there is no concent, but in general, there are huge differences in legislations of different countries regarding this area. The public opinion is a completely different matter to consider, though. |

I've heard that here we have a 16 year old age of consent, but they can still ding you for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. [EDIT] http://carlosmiller.com/2010/08/05/flashing-teenage-breasts-could-land-man-in-prison/ They all watch too much MSNBC... they get ideas. |

Trent Gamblin said: Accelerating towards the speed limit isn't illegal. Talking sex to a 14 year old girl is, and as far as this guy knew, that's exactly what he was doing.
In that case he is completely not-guilty of any crime. Because he was talking sex to an adult. First, minors really shouldn't be in sex chat rooms. That's a failure of parenting. So 14+ years old can hop on it wiht someone else between 14 and 18, but 18 and one day can be prosecuted? What a weird law. Here, the age of consent is 15 and nobody cares whether the girl is 16 and has a 20 year old boyfriend. The only problem is, if the girl says that she was raped (I've heard several stories where both wanted it, but then the girl decided otherwise for whatever reason). But that can happen even to adults. [My website][CppReference][Pixelate][Allegators worldwide][Who's online] |

How about when the game warden catches you dipping your earthworm in the lake at the end of a fishing pole? Without a license or some other restraint, obviously. "Honest, I was just washing my worm!". They all watch too much MSNBC... they get ideas. |

Albin Engström said: What's evil about wanting to have sex with someone who's more than interested? Beacuse no one has explained that part to me. Cause you know: "it's just evil". Because a 14-year-old cannot be expected to sufficiently understand the physical and emotional consequences, while by general consensus, an 18-year-old can. I bet most 8-year-olds would be interested in piloting a jet airplane, but letting them do so is illegal for similar reasons (although it's somewhat less of a taboo). Jonatan Hedborg said: They put new rules into place this year, and I'm not sure they are as bad in other countries. It's now illegal to see sexually suggestive pictures of people under the age of 18. I think 90% of Sweden has become "pedophiles" thanks to that law Wow, that is so cool. So you could send someone an envelope containing offending pictures, and call the police the moment they open it. If you send the letter from a country where such pictures aren't illegal (say, Germany), you could even do it legally. --- |
