Woah, what kind of strategy was it to not play defense on the last play? That three pointer could have sunk Argentina. Maybe they were hoping to avoid getting embarrassed by the USA. |

Yeah, but Greece missed so we will have to (Edit: Hehehe, typical, some people are asking to wait for Bolt's antidoping tests... of course, they never doubted Phelps... by this time if it is known Phelps was high on pills, it would be scandalous, so even if he is like a Pac-Man, they will never reveal so) -- |

Eastern Europe tends to do well, and USA is usually competitive because we recruit people from those countries. China has been up and down. And yes, they (China) uses little girls. The rest of the world uses women of at least 16 years of age as is required. |

Yeah. But all the other gymnastics shut their mouth because they don't want to be humiliated acknowledging they lost to little girls As for always won by Russia and China, how can you forget romanian Nadia Comaneci, the first one to get perfect 10.0 score during Olympic games (it is funny because the display was not prepared for 10, it used to go up to 9.9 only, and so they displayed 1.0 and everyone began murmuring until it was explained they meant a 10.0) First ten ever. And the way she ends the first exercise here is impressive! -- |

Quote: Yeah. But all the other gymnastics shut their mouth because they don't want to be humiliated acknowledging they lost to little girls Haha. Well, certain events (namely the uneven bars) are easier for younger girls. So it can help your team score to have a few kids to fly around on them because they don't have to compete in the other events. The other gymnasts are being good sports about it because they know it's not the girls' faults that they live in a communistic country that falsified their passports and forced them at a young age to live a life in the gym away from their families. And they generally feel that the age restriction is dumb anyway, particularly because it's impossible to enforce even when somebody is obviously not sixteen. |

As my motto goes, "if they're that young and that good, then they're actually robots." Now, if Japan would send some ninjas, we'd have an interesting event. ------------ |

TV here said it is because small girls tend to suffer less serious injuries if they fail, therefore they can try bolder exercises. However, Nastia Liukin actually scored as well as He, but did a few more mistakes according to the judges. -- |

Hehehehe A sidenote: in soccer, it is suspected that African teams put people older than the maximum age (for example, Olympic Games are for sub 23 plus 3 majors, so that it does not compete against the World Cup, but when you see some of the Nigerian players, they look as 30 year old players). TV again explains that in Africa, when a child is born they do not know if he will survive the first years (sad, isn't it?), so they wait until they are three or four to inscribe them. And since they are not really sure of when they were actually born, they write they were born in that year or the year before, when the boy actually goes walking and talking to the government office. That is why they do so well in sub-xx categories, but are not that good in major tournaments (because most players are already over 30... Cameroon in the Italy World Cup in 1994 had very old people, Roger Milla was like 42). Check on the soccer finals, compare our forward Agüero with any of their defenders. -- |

You mean who is supposedly 16 years old. Update: China is being investigated for underage gymnasts. They could lose four of their medals, including lots of gold. Team USA wins beach volleyball in both the women's and men's tournaments! USA now with 99 medals and pulling away from China's 83! |

Steven Lopez, the American Tae-kwon-do hopefull, loses to some Italian dude in the quarter finals. Steven was winning, but got penalized and had a point taken off, creating a tie that led into overtime. The Italian guy managed a kick as he was falling. He stands little chance of winning overall though, as he hurt his foot during the match pretty badily (which Steven seemed to capitalize on). The scoring system is kind of awkward. ------------ |

Argentine female hockey won 3-1 against Germany and got the bronze medal, same as last Olympics. Germany was the Olympic champion. Basketball, Argentina-US in around three hours. And then the only match that matters, soccer final in around 15 hours, Argentina-Nigeria. (Edit: Jamaica destroyed the 4x100 world record too!) (Edit 2: Spain to the basketball finals. Now comes US-Argentina!) (Edit 3: Hmm... Argentina failed both 3-points shoots so far... that is the only way they can win...) (Edit 4: US is missing 3-point shoots too, that is good (Edit 5: First quarter, US 30 - Argentina 12) (Edit 6: Second quarter, US 49 - Argentina 40, great quarter for us, forcing US to take 3-point shoots which they are missing most. Things are going better, after US led by 21 points) -- |

Good second quarter by Argentina. I have to watch it online without commentary since the networks here decided tape delayed ping pong is more interesting than the live basketball match, so it's a little hard to follow as I'm not actively watching every second of it. But there appears to be a lot of fouls called, which is slowing down the game. In the short term, that favors Argentina, but if their guys start to foul out, USA's depth should quickly take over. If recent history repeats itself, USA will come out sharp in the second half and put Argentina away. |

Argentina is playing zone, forcing US to try 3-point shoots. Ginobilli reached 3 fouls during the first quarter, which is pretty strange for any player, and even more for him who is not usually that kind of player. He may rest a bit more, half third quarter, since he twisted his ankle. Bench is giving over twice the amount of points as the initial pack, so I am betting Ginobilli and Nocioni will stay out some more. (Edited: Nocioni in, Ginobilli still resting) (Edit 2: US is playing zone now, Argentina is not taking 3-point shoots yet) -- |

The game just started for me. Score is 4 - 3 Argent-, er 4-5 USA. Trying not to look on the nbc website for the current score. In fact, I'm going away from here too. woosh. ------------ |

Someone needs to take the whistles away from the refs; this is getting ridiculous. Both teams are going to run out of players. I think USA just shot like seven straight free throws and got the ball out. |
