installing allegro with Visual C++ Express 2008

Hi,
I would like to install Allegro to work with Microsoft C++ Visual Express 2008 edition. I was looking at the installation details at:

http://wiki.allegro.cc/Visual_C%2B%2B_Express_2008 and

http://wiki.allegro.cc/Visual_C%2B%2B_Express_2005

The Wiki for the 2008 edition tells me that:

The only real difference here is the fact that the binaries compiled under the 2005 version of VC++ express will not work with 2008. In order to use Allegro 4.2.2 you will either have to build 4.2.2 yourself or find someone who has already done so.

I am COMPLETELY new to this and have no idea how to build 4.2.2 myself. Is there anywhere that this process is explained that would be understandable to a beginner?

Failing this, I have also heard Dev-C++ mentioned quite a few times. Would this be the better option? How come the download is so small compared to Microsoft C++. Is it inferior in any way?

Thanks,
Tim

Thanks a lot!

I had just downloaded the 2008 MSVC yesterday and was using it with the msvc80.zip version.

@tm2383:
DevCpp is liteweight and really great to start with. MSVC on the other hand has many more features as compared to Dev.
