Even if a game is free it is still worth as much as a user is ready to pay for it. I've always wanted to pay for Icy Tower and I could give a donation for Chaos Funk too. I'm not ready to fork out cash for any breakout game though, doesn't matter if it's free or shareware.

This all boils down to what type of person the costumer is. If they have no value for the money they have they would care less if it was free the next day.(worse if this person did not work for the money.)

note:For some else that values their money. (works hard for it)and wanted to support the underdog or just happen to see the ad while surfing. this person will be upset.

I support you and you just sold out on me.

It's ridiculous to compare an indie developer to a large company like that.

It is and I wouldn't do that.

... so the games he makes actually have to be good / original enough to either find a top notch publisher ...

Railroad Tycoon, Risk, Monopoly, Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, Trivial Pursuit, etc...

The original ones are the ones that tend to make the top of the charts. Luxor is the prime example.

I'd just like to add my belated voice to those thinking it's a pity that your shareware buisness did not bring in the income you hoped. At least you're keeping your game-development cogs rotating with freeware games.

Best of luck with your career. Are you going to try and get in the games-industry? Having a well-polished game like Neon-Wars under your belt is sure to get you in.

Richard: I took the liberty of using the Reflected Games logo to be the logo for the create series on the Allegro Wiki, and wanted to clear this with you. If it's a problem, I'll remove it, though I don't know of any suitable replacement.

All respect for your skills in the industry, but I'm sorry to say it should have been obvious from the start that asking 20 dollars for a Breakout clone in this day and age was pure madness.

Oh well, noone can say you didn't try. I remember seeing the Neon Wars review in EDGE magazine and being really impressed. I listened to that youtube review. The guy was basically explaining what the game's about. He definitely liked it.

Good luck.

I have bought Neon Wars. Now I am happy because I will have your games for free, dear Phipps ;-)
