What Wii game should I get?

Well, since I got two Zelda games for Christmas this year, I get to trade one for a game of my choosing. What game should I get? My wife is starting to lean towards that Trauma Center game, but the Rayman Raving Rabbids looks like it could be quite a bit of fun.

Excite Truck is fairly fun, and Super Monkey Ball looks interesting.

Oh yeah, that looked pretty good too, although it didn't get as high a review in EGM. What's the control scheme like (I imagine you hold the ends of the Wii remote and act like it's a wheel).

What I really want is a Wii game that imitates a drum set. I haven't gotten to play my drums in years. It'd be awesome to use two Wii remotes as drumsticks. Hope they do that...

My wife loves Trauma Center, and we both had a lot of fun working our way through Rayman. I keep hearing that Elebits is fun, but I have yet to try it.

Ha, that puts me back to square one.

My vote goes in for Trauma Center (which I own, and which is very fun). I saw the intro and other assorted parts of Rayman and those Rabbids make me want to punch babies--even baby Jesus. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but that whole Rabbid idea just drains all the water out of the ocean and, really, there's nothing floating that boat except a bunch of hot-hot sand.

Simply put: it's loud and obnoxious and, for me, doesn't make a very good game concept. I'm sure I just lack the humor to understand the fun value in retarded looking rabbits doing annoying and disgusting things.

Hell, flip a coin I guess.

Since I own them both I'd have to say Rayman has more replay value. There are around 30 unique minigames (some of the others are rehashes with different goals) and you can replay ones you've finished along with saving up points to unlock more costumes and goodies. The numerous "on rails" shooting segments are extremely well done.

I'm not sure if it's worth more than a rental, but Call of Duty 3 was surprisingly good. Aside from the dopey action-time sequences where you beat the crap out of ambushing soldiers, the controls are extremely tight and are almost as good as ye olde mouse+kbd, something that I wasn't really expecting. I'll never play another FPS with a gamepad.

I'll have to agree with you that Rayman probably has more replay value. I played quite a bit of Trauma center -- but you can only take so much before you put it down to keep the repetition of the gameplay from gnawing at your brain.

That's how you play.

And, Super Monkey Ball is pretty replayable, as it also makes a fun party game.

If you don't own Trauma Center for DS, I would suggest it for Wii, because it is not as hard. If you own it, you should go for Rabbids. Here, I am betting that a full Wii-specific Trauma Center game will be developed during next year, and thus playing the previous version should be a must.

Well, ended up getting Trauma Center. It's not really my type of game, but my wife is loving it (she happens to be starting her real nursing career in a week). Most likely we'll end up buying RRR here in a few weeks, but what I really need now is an extra wii-mote. :-/

Credits to all and to all goodnight.

Oh, yeah, without an extra wiimote for RRR, it kind of dulls the experience.

Extra Wiimote and Nunchuck. ;)

BTW, something about Rayman seems a little off in the controls that it can mess you up a little at times.

The only real problem I'm having (and I anticipate I will continue to have) is that many developers are not creating controls that cater to both left and right handed users. Rayman assumes that you're right handed and doesn't offer any option to flip (this matters only when doing the dance sequences, but it's annoying nonetheless). Same thing with Call of Duty 3... which becomes a total nuisance when you're trying to line up your remote/chuck to bash a soldier's head in or pull a pin out from a demolition charge.

Also, it seems that the nunchuck is slightly less sensitive to motion than the remote, which may stem from the significant difference in weight between the two.

The nunchuck only has an accelerometer, so it is less sensitive than the wiimote, which apparently can detect atomic movements.

monkey balls is shite. in the story mode you can't play multi-player this time, but the main problem is they just haven't worked out how to code the controller and almost all the mini-games simply don't work.

rayman is really really fun, especially the dancing games which surprised me as I normally hate them, however I finished it in 2 days and I think I won't be coming back for more games that often, however those were two fine days and I'd still recommend it :)

but I would say this. get a component lead. I've just got one and the change to the games picture qualities are quite astounding. in wii sports you can see more, further and everthing is crisper and brighter.

I'm picking up S-video cables next week. It's the best I can do with my current TV, but that's fine.

So far, Monkey Ball is depressing. Zelda looks very fun but it's a time investment (70+ hours of gameplay?). Rayman is freaking amazing, but some of the games get repetitive. I guess I'm a "lower form of human" for finding the rabbids hilarious... but I do. Elebits is crap from what I've played. It's a poor techdemo at best. MADDEN 07 IS FUN--go straight for the 2 on 2 (backyard) football minigame. It's so much fun when you play with four people.

Zelda is not that much of a time investment. I completed it in only 40 the first time, and that was without much side quests. The side quests I did do was a result of me finding them by mistake actually.

And I don't believe you're a "lower form of human" for thinking them rabbids hilarious. Though one of the minigames is a tad disturbing looking at the end results of doing it, if it was viewed out of context... Poor modeling IMHO.

IIRC it took me around 45 hours to finish it, but although I didn't do all the side quests I was extremely thorough when making my way through the dungeons, so I didn't miss anything there. I missed quote a bit considering I somehow skipped a hojillion heart pieces (now it takes 5 to make a new heart container).

I've discovered a flaw with zelda, and I guess it's possibly down to not being created as a proper wii game, though I don't know exactly why. Basically with my component lead zelda doesn't work with my widescreen plasma in 'auto aspect' mode and makes the picture too big to fit so I have to adjust my tv to be 16:9. All other games I have (which are wii games) work fine. I have this problem with most of my GC games too on my tv.
