Not that you all care but after finding out that the new Arena system was playable at lvl 60 - 70 only and that you only get rewards at lvl 70 I decided there is nothing the game can offer me. I'm quit just now. Free at last...free at last...god all might..free at last.

Well done! Now, can you save Spellcaster from WoW too?

Good on ya, kiddo. I kicked the habit a ways back, myself. In my opinion it's just not a very good game. Not worth the money. I'm going to wait until the MMO genre matures.

You mean, wait for 3 years ago? ) The MMORPGs number in hundreds now, it's not like WOW is one of the first. It's all the addictive effect of previous MMORPGs, rectified :).

Rick: I hope you can stay away. Quitting WOW can be a little like quitting smoking ;).

You can just hang around outside all day tossing a ball around, or you can sit at your computer and do something that matters.

How dare you abandon the World .... of Warcraft.

I saw Bifur or whatever his name is online not too long ago when I logged onto my Druid (for the first time in months :P). You still play; admit it. ;)

He said to wait for it to mature, and I think I know what he means (and agree). WoW is just a quest/rep/farm grind and few MMORPGs are much different; if I didn't have IRL friends now who finally got into WoW, I wouldn't play at all anymore either. It is kind of a crappy game, or more accurately an excellent game in a crappy genre. :)

I don't know if anyone has ever noticed, but Blizzard games aren't actually that fantastic. The cartoony graphics, the simplified interfaces, the sounds associated with every mouse click and key press... it's all psychological. Which is fine with me, as long as I'm having fun.

I think the problem is that you build up something of a resistence to it after a while when you play WoW, and then all you have left is the game itself. Then you go "Wow, I pay how much a month for this?"

(yes, I know that their RTS's provide an excellent platform for tournaments as well as diverse custom games, but so do many RTS's out there -- it's the psychology that's different)

Of course, I could be full of shit. It's just my take on it. It doesn't prevent me from playing wc3 just about every waking day though.

I think you're right on the money. Psychology plays a big role in Blizzard games, as it should in any game. Psychology is important in a game because the game is not played by a computer, it is played by a person. The game designer needs to have an understanding of how the person will interact with the game on a psychological level.
But I will point out that StarCraft is an extrodinarily balanced game. It took a few years, but they got it just right. StarCraft isn't just another RTS, it has unmatched balance. And the sheer simplicity of the graphics allows it to run smoothly on any machine. Unlike CS which won't let you have a smooth gaming experience if you gave it your liver.

Psychology eh?

Ok.. If you don't like Chaos Funk you are too stupid to play games.

Did it work?

Does that go for someone who hasn't played it, or even heard of it before it was mentioned (likely by you) on these forums?

StarCraft is one of only 3 games I ever finished, the other being Interstate 76 and Interstate 76 NitroPack. The key feature being atmosphere for all 3, combined with proper gameplay and no or few bugs.
