Attached is a sample binary for OS X (PPC) that contains one Speedhack game. I'd like to know if it even runs before I bother with any others.

Not here, but I guess that's only expected since mine's an Intel (MacBook with Tiger)? Or am I missing something? I am after all a very new Mac-user.

Works with an iBook G3, 700MHz. OSX 10.4.4 I think.

Allegro 4.2.0 doesn't compile, 4.2 SVN compiles and works as normal (if I recall correctly).

Yes, 4.2 SVN does work.

This isn't a problem I've seen before with other Allegro programs. I notice that the Allegro framework isn't embedded into the application bundle, so I wouldn't expect this program to work at all on any computer without Allegro specifically and separately installed.

EDIT: it looks like it is linked, UNIX style, against /usr/local/lib/<allegro> so I guess embedding the framework wouldn't help anyway. I guess if you're going to UNIX it up then static linking against the library is a similar thing to do. Good thing Allegro isn't LGPL!

EDIT2: while people are looking and potentially testing, could they also have a go with one of mine? http://members.allegro.cc/ThomasHarte/files/demogame/AllegroDemoGame.dmg will do - it's a bit less than 900 kB. I'm particularly curious about whether it works for Intel users. I'm planning on making the switch myself this month or next...

Thomas: Yes, it works here (Intel-based MacBook), but not fullscreen. Also, there is a spelling error in the main menu: Coontinue should only have one o.

I've updated the original post with a new binary that uses the latest, static linked SVN version of Allegro. I'd like to know if it works any better.

Yep, it works. (There's a weird mouse trail in the control selection menu, but other than that it all seems to work as intended.)

Yep, that one works. Horrible performance, of course, but it works.

That's peculiar. Probably some sort of problem related to the way Allegro near-forces you to hard-code resolution choices.

Hmmm. I'm an idiot. Oh well, I'm sure someone will have fixed that somewhere down the line.

EDIT: Completely unrelated to the thread at hand, but for Trumgotish: in case you didn't find it yet, have you tried Bubble Gym? It's like getting a Nintendo Wii early. I did once play on a Powerbook that had been set up so that the tilt sensor acted as input to Neverball (the freeware Super Monkey Ball-alike) - that was pretty cool but I can't find any links any more.

EDIT2: This is the link for using the old PowerBook/iBook tilt sensor as a simulated mouse for otherwise unaware applications such as Neverball (which is specifically mentioned on the page). I've no idea if that works on the new Intel laptops though, even though they definitely have the tilt sensor built in.
