I've been a baaaaad little boy.

In case anyone's wondering why I seemed to have dropped of the planet for the last couple days, its cause I did! I took a journey to the end of the earth! Yes it really exists! No fooling, 100% Truth. Just do what I did, download too much crap and have your ISP cut you off for a week! (I have till this coming monday yet before its turned back on :()

So in short, I've been a baaaaad little boy ;D

Well, Its giving me time to catch up on fixing my HTPC (Home Theater PC), read the Japanese Histroy/Culture/Language books I got from the library, setup the MythTV backend to record my favorite Discovery Channel Shows (Monster Garage, Monster House, American Chopper, American Hotrod, anoyone notice a theme? ;D), Work my ass off with my dad, at $12/h (tax free) this time (instead of 10/h tax free), And just generally get sick and tired of watching TV again :( I watched sooo much TV while I was up in Ft. McMurray, I just can't stand to watch much anymore (It used to be an addiction, just like surfing and IRC is these days ;))

Ohh.. Today was fun... We had to move a ton of PVC pipe around, we started with some 6" and 8", that wasn't so hard, possibly easy, but then the 10" came :o Liek OMG and stuff! ;) Got one, ONE inside (100-200meters or so), and another 3-4 feet, my body just said STFU N00B! Had the most serious Asthma attack I've ever had, but thats not saying much, I've only (now) had 2 major ones, one 10+ years ago, and the one today, I still can't breath right, and its been 6+ hours :o, make me laugh, and the coughing starts... So of course my (soon to be) step mom makes me laugh a couple times, not on purpose, but still... I don't know how (real serious) asthmatics deal with it. hmm, some might think "the puffer", I say STFU ;) I was on them when I was younger for a time, my asthma just got worse, and I started to become dependent on them (yes, they were the non-steroid type, my moms been a stickler for not getting her kids hooked on meds, her old family Dr was a pill pusher..)

So yeah.. Maybe I should get a BLog or something ;) nah, noone'll read it then ;D (j/k, I'll probably work on some Ideas I've had the past few months for my site... fix all the nagging little problems, rewrite the sql stuff... and then maybe I'll start using the "Log/Diary" part of my site's forum system ;D)

If anyone made it this far, and read the entire rambling post, <Ikea Commercial>You're crazy, the new one is much better</Ikea Commercial> ;D

p.s. Just looked at the preview, looks like the smilie king is back ;D <Quagmire>Oh Yeah!</Quagmire> ;D;D;D;D

HEY! I watch all of those too, except the hotrod one. I also watch Myth Busters, that's a funny show.

So, got your internet cut, eh?...../me turns off Shareaza
heh heh....eee. Well, not like I get any good speeds off Shareaza. I probably spent more bandwidth when I was downloading demos off fileplanet non-stop.

I should probably mention what the limits and what not are ;)

Total (up+down): 50GB/mo

The last "monthly period" was from Jan 23 to Feb 23, As of Feb 23, I had a total of 58GB :o (up: 23ish GB, down: 35ish) And I've been cutting back since I got the last warning, I thought I had cut back enough, but I guess I didn't ;D

Nobody cares.

Edit: Contradiction: Sorry you had to go through that. Sucks, eh? A blog will do you wonders, yes. (And yet I seem to care enough to reply. Damn, I'm bored.)

It's funny, I've never seen you post like that before. You seem like you've had a lot of sugar or caffeine. :)

So your internet is capped? That's wrong. I'm not aware of any cap on mine, but mine seems to be much slower than yours. I don't think I've downloaded 50gig in a month. More like about 60 in 6 months.

Kanzure: Your feeling a bit mean today.

Yeah. Too much sugar, or caffeine, or both. ;)

Any ISP will cap you at some point. Often they'll do it by slowing your connection down, usually on a sliding scale. The more you download past a certain point, the slower it gets. Bell Sympatico's High Speed Internet seems to do it that way.

I'm limited to 15GB up/down, but currently there's nothing in place to stop me at that point. A rough guess of what I do per month is ~50GB up/down. I download entire DVD's often (..as in, 4.7gb torrents :P), episodes of various shows weekly, as well as tons of other stuff... like hosting websites ;D

I think mine might be like yours Derezo. Because it's not that fast these days. Yet my friend gets 1mb bandwidth most of the time. But he doesn't have two (sometimes three) computers downloading 24/7.

Though I found out something rather amazing while testing out my FTP. I can download from myself, to my ISP, and back, at 2-3mb sustained, 4mb peak. That was insane. Now if everyone else would only get their act together. ;D

I think I'll e-mail them sometime and ask if they have any limits and such. The only thing I know they don't allow, is downloading popular songs off kazaa. My friend who has a "normal" brother, downloads popular songs, and they get letters in the mail threatening to shut the cable off. :) I OTOH, not having "popular" tastes, never see such a thing.

How would they know your downloading songs off Kazaa unless they're monitoring your activites? Better check that privacy policy! ;D

It's easy. You connect to an RIAA (or equivalent) Kazaa client. They get your IP. They track your IP to your ISP. And your ISP not wanting to get sued, gets very mad at you.

oh yeah, forgot about those pesky RIAA servers ;) I don't really download music, radio is better and I don't use Kazaa(riddled with spyware) so my ISP should be quite happy with me ;D

The cable company here (which is my ISP ;)) Has limits, and if you start going way over, you get into the radar.. way over ~= 100GB. Being in thier radar == BAD. After they notice you, they don't unnotice you, so even a couple GB over the 50GB and you're farked :)

DSL from Telus (the local telco) on the other hand, I alone downloaded over 100GB in one month at my old place, and others (mainly one other) have had to have downloaded quite a bit as well. Though the DSL is 1.5mb/s, where as the Cable is 10mb/s :) The most I could pull at once on DSL was 150KB/s, Cable? >600KB/s. Hayai yo! ;)

Funny, I remember posting like that several times in the past :o Maybe its all in my head? ;) Nah. Now I've had quite a bit of sugar (fake sugar mind you, that crap in Diet Coke, tastes like shite, but my dad can't do the sugar thing anymore. :( He si diabetic.) I think its a combination of tiredness (I get hyper/drunk-like when I'm really tired, its like an anoying second wind, ask any #allegro'er), lack of internet (or people to talk to), and boredom :)

note: edit: removed may edit note.

Kanzure, I love you too big boy.

>600KB/s, you lucky punk. :o Why, I only get ~300KB/s :). Although my ping is very nice ;D, what's yours like??? Anyway, where do you put 100GB anyway??? That's like, you have to buy a 120GB HD every month :o Woah...you must be rich! :o :P ;)

Heh, my main "stuff/shite" volume is made of 4 80GB drives, which give an actual 74GB each, times by four, you get 296GB. I have a third of a TB on just that one volume ;D

as for ping... I think it was around 200 to ping google.ca. I saw way less when checking out the server list in the ut2k4 demo. (one said 0 :o ;) but more realistic numbers were 40-80msec) Ah, yahoo.com gives 60msec not too aweful (I'm on the same ISP at my dads, should be similar to what I'd get at home, we live sorta close...)

Oh, and I don't keep all I download, and I know for one torrent, I was trying out that Java BT client, and I ran out of disk space, but it kept re downloading the last chunks after it failed to write them to disk, that took over 1 GB (for a <200MB torrent)...

Ha cool, my pings are < 30ms on Counter-Strike. I think yahoo was at 26ms and less. not too shabby ;D I guess Cox is just good at ping times. Now, get some 120GB HDs, raid those puppys together, and you might get to a terrabyte eventually.

Let's not start the "I've got more capacity" competition. You know I'll win. ;D

I did.

And as for your pings...you guys suck, you know that? ;D My ping to yahoo.com is 90-350ms. But mine might be directed to a different server than yours (as well as my proximity to one might be huge).

Oh, guess what. I got in trouble with my college's computing service for downloading too much. ;D;D;D

I upgraded most of my system, and Gentoo's 'emerge' downloaded about 1 GB of packages over five days. They have a new rule here of no more than 1 GB in any 10-day period without prior authorisation. But hey, everything I did was legal. That means I pwn all of you! ;D

Err, anyway, I (skim-)read your post, Tomasu.

And I now have a 4.1 speaker set. It's a Logitech Z-540. Cost me £30, half price. Tron sounds - and feels - good on it. And my newly equipped computer gave me the best rendition of Independence Day's destruction scene I've experienced yet. ;D

Here at uni I'm a member of a game developing association, and we have an office. The other day we downloaded DX9SDK at 5.7MB/s :o That's speed :P:) More than 220MB in less than a minute ;D With that speeds, you can figure out how many gigs of data we download at month ;) The problem is that the servers where the files are stored are usually slow ::)

And when I think about my poor 256kbps connection at home :'(

I was actually describing my old ISP at that point. We stopped using them because of that ;D
Now I use Cogeco, which boasts 3gbps down, 400kbps up. I actually get higher results, usually around 4mbit/sec. However, right now I did a test and got a whopping 5.5mbit/sec dl, 597kbit/sec ul. Nice. :)

Oscar: Who I wouldn't kill to have that connection in my home... ;)

My pings are relatively bad, as I'm running through a switch. Plus my ISP uses a proxy, which surely couldn't help things. Yahoo/google average around 130ms.

Bruce Perry

I got over 7 MB/sec on an upload once. Yes, that's megabytes. ;D

Ping times: 144 ms to yahoo.com. 5.41 ms to yahoo.co.uk. :P

I got away with my excessive bandwidth by the way. It's "arguably in support of academic work". :)
