Good Games for Laptop Play |

Hey, I'm looking for games to play on my laptop. I have off times at school throughout the week which I have nothing else to do. I won't usually have a mouse on me, so that's a factor. Also, my laptop is widescreen, so if the games are full screen, it'd be great if they fit that aspect ratio (Starcraft stretches too much 1.8ghz Turion x2 Thanks

Battle for Wesnoth - it's a turn based strategy, so you can play it even on touchpad. [My website][CppReference][Pixelate][Allegators worldwide][Who's online] |

I play Civilization III on my laptop all the time, it works fine with a touchpad. In fact I played it so much over Christmas break that I've left a big worn spot on my touchpad.

Haha, thats what happens when you use the same 1cm area of the touchpad all the time. I have a friend whose laptop has a small worn spot in the touch pad because that's the only area he can work up the energy to move his fingers on. |

Actually my worn area is about 4-5 centimeters wide, and about 2 centimeters long.

I'd also suggest Freeciv - really nice Civilisation clone which comes back to the roots in a pretty graphics coat with some comfortable tweaks and improvements. On my keyboard the "w" key doesn't have a "w" on it anymore... I blame Halo.

My old keyboard had almost blank ASDWJKL keys. The J key was 100% blank. My latest (almost 4 years old) keyboard has all the keys visible, but because of the rough texture of the keys, some of them are covered with finger-sweat-dirt. (If you have a Microsoft keyboard or mouse you should know what I'm talking about.) ---- |

Ha! You think wearing down keys is hardcore? I use my left Alt key for all of my keyboard shortcuts (eg alt+x opens up a terminal), and it fell off about a month ago. Then again, maybe my keyboard just sucks..... |

I keep myself entertained in PLC classes with UFO: Enemy Unknown. You don't deserve my sig. |

Keys falling off of your keyboard is less "hardcore" and more "angry German kid playing UT2004*" Actually, there's one case where missing a key is not only understandable, but even desirable, and that's the case of the "SHUT DOWN" key. Playing a game where you use F12 to save was torture until I manually removed the key (with A SHARP KNIFE!). ---- |

Quote: UFO: Enemy Unknown Great game! Sure it is, but I was getting serious headaches from it's interface. Those pictograms weren't intuitive and I just didn't know what those icons do. I know it's old game, but still. Besides this I was actually enjoying it. [My website][CppReference][Pixelate][Allegators worldwide][Who's online] |

Me too, but admittedly i had to abuse save games (save every turn or so) to win the game. [FMC Studios] - [Caries Field] - [Ctris] - [Pman] - [Chess for allegroites] |

I had a friend once who removed all his keyboard's keys and rearranged them in alphabetical order, not qwerty-style |

Playing a game where you use F12 to save was torture until I manually removed the key (with A SHARP KNIFE!). My keyboard use to have "back" and "forward" keys next to the up arrow key. (so that there was a 2x3 block of keys: back, up, forward, left, down, right). At first I thought it was a neat and potentially useful setup, but after using that keyboard for half a year I couldn't take it anymore. Those keys are gone now. The reason I hated it was that I would frequently accidentally press "back" instead of one of the arrow keys after writing a lengthy forum post, and all my work would be erased. I hated that damn key... My new laptop has a similar problem. It has a "Fn" key to the left of Ctrl. I often use Ctrl+C or Ctrl+X to move chunks of text around, but because of this stupid Fn key, I often lose my work these days. I press "Fn+C" instead of Ctrl+C, then I close stuff without saving (or whatever), then I find that I haven't actually copied the thing I thought I had copied... That is an example of poor key placement. Stupid non-standard buttons where standard buttons should be.. grumble grumble ----------- |

I have a very old AT keyboard I use for my server. I`m removed all the keys many times to clean out all the gunk that gets in there. It`s fairly safe to do I think, unless it`s a laptop and then I wouldn`t attempt it. You can be a new keyboard cheap for a desktop, but laptop keyboards are expensive if you break something.

You just have to be really careful to type the right keys. I myself have never had problems (though I do make typing mistakes on occasion). -- |

I hated that damn key... Why do you use substandard browsers then? Opera remembers form contents (except for password fields) as long as you don't close the tab you filled the form in. My thinkpad has those buttons too. I love 'em. You don't deserve my sig. |
