I just realized that you don't need to build stairs to go upward. You can just jump and place blocks below you, if you get the timing right. Or you can just look straight down and hold the jump and build button at the same time. Is there anyway to use the arrows in the free survival mode?

OK, so I've managed to craft the basic wood based tools and managed to survive the night by tearing the walls of the spawn house down and building a smaller fortress on the roof with my stairs semi-disabled. However, the baddies are still alive when daybreak comes and I finally wonder outside... And I can't kill them all... They're too fast and destroy me... What do I do?!?! Also, do you need to "level up" before making better tools? I've tried making tools out of the walls of the spawn point, but I can't... It sure looks like what they're made of... Maybe it's just the wrong material. Billybob said: Or you can just look straight down and hold the jump and build button at the same time. That could come in handy for climbing up into my fortress and easily disabling the stairs. -- acc.js | al4anim - Allegro 4 Animation library | Allegro 5 VS/NuGet Guide | Allegro.cc Mockup | Allegro.cc <code> Tag | Allegro 4 Timer Example (w/ Semaphores) | Allegro 5 "Winpkg" (MSVC readme) | Bambot | Blog | C++ STL Container Flowchart | Castopulence Software | Check Return Values | Derail? | Is This A Discussion? Eventually, but that will probably take a while... Actually, Sam figured it out.. I was indeed using the wrong stone. I can make stone weapons, but they still don't seem to help. A bow and arrow might, but they require a lot of material between them and I don't think arrows are reusable. However, the advantage of being above ground like I am is that I can see the baddies. So I jumped off the other side of my floating fortress and ran until I presume they were removed from the map and destroyed. Then I found some kind of ore. I also found red mushrooms, but in the process lost about half my health from fall damage... I then barely made it back to my fortress by nightfall... I need to find a brown mushroom before I can heal myself... -- acc.js | al4anim - Allegro 4 Animation library | Allegro 5 VS/NuGet Guide | Allegro.cc Mockup | Allegro.cc <code> Tag | Allegro 4 Timer Example (w/ Semaphores) | Allegro 5 "Winpkg" (MSVC readme) | Bambot | Blog | C++ STL Container Flowchart | Castopulence Software | Check Return Values | Derail? | Is This A Discussion? I started with just a small shelter off the ground to protect me during the night, but found the arrows could easily reach me if I wandered outside, even onto the roof. After much daytime work (and very long, boring nights), I began mining, and after much mining, I built the tower. The tower serves two functional purposes: it allows me to wander outside day or night without being vulnerable to attack, and it makes it much easier to find my way back when I'm wandering around outside. The first few times I went outside I found myself lost and barely making it back before nightfall. I stumbled upon the cavern and it's proven very rich of ores (much more rich than the main mine shaft, I'm sorry to say). It's been a bit of a struggle keeping it lit enough to keep baddies away though. It's shape was largely influenced by the natural shape and position of ores so it's currently a mess, which means I need a lot more torches to keep it lit. Fortunately, I've recently discovered more coal deposits which should keep me going a while longer. Archon said: Somehow, a pig got into my fortress. I've had both sheep and pigs appearing in my allegedly sealed mine as well. I think it's a glitch. A pretty harmless one that offers you easy to get raw materials though. I've occasionally had baddies also appear in my mine though. I'm not sure if they're glitching or if there's a hole somewhere... -- acc.js | al4anim - Allegro 4 Animation library | Allegro 5 VS/NuGet Guide | Allegro.cc Mockup | Allegro.cc <code> Tag | Allegro 4 Timer Example (w/ Semaphores) | Allegro 5 "Winpkg" (MSVC readme) | Bambot | Blog | C++ STL Container Flowchart | Castopulence Software | Check Return Values | Derail? | Is This A Discussion? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the whole point of videogames to provide fun and entertainment? If it's fun for some people, then it isn't pointless. --------- |

Indev just updated, and now one can generate "paradise" or "forest" themed maps as well. I love the forest one. The first thing I had to do, was to kill a pig to get some flint and steel, and then burn the place to the ground! I spent a night in a quickly built dirt bunker watching the glow, and the occasional mob running out from the flames. |

And this is played by a considerable number of people, and they obviously enjoy it... What is the point you are trying to make verthex? 100k+ registered players, ~300 online at any one time, 4800 purchases, about 40-110 purchases per day. I believe the developer has this as his full-time job. I would certainly call that a success.

Well, I guess I've played a lot more games in my life and maybe thats why I dont find that game appealing. Obviously todays internet commercialization allows for a much larger market reach and that is one reason why games are easier to sell compared to 10 years ago. But it is good to see someone develop something that people like.

I find that a lot of the fun is in the simplicity. A good break from all the "standard" games that are coming out nowadays. ______________________________________ |
