What is going to happen this year?

Will Israel and Palestine enter another war?
Will Obama make the economy worse?
Will the coalition soldiers all return home this year?
Will any of us finish a decent game?

Discuss your responses and worldly predictions.

Same old, same old.

No. They will keep fighting the one they've been in since Israel was established.
No. The economy will do that all by itself.
Don't think so.
Don't think so.

Israel and Palestine started their 2009 war early, though it's probably unfair to call Palestine a participant.

Obama will not make the economy worse; at this stage it's beyond the control of politicians.

The British soldiers will depart Iraq at least. Whether that leaves any 'coalition' soldiers other than Americans there, I don't know. I suspect they'll nip off to Afghanistan though.

No.

How do you classify 'decent' ?

Do you mean by the repetitive:
1. Palestinians Launch rockets into to Israel
2. Israel retaliates with helicopter bombardments
3. ???
4. War profiteering

... as opposed to the Israel-Lebanon War in 2006?

You never know. I don't mean to imply that he will make it worse, but politicians can influence it. For example: the bailout plans.

I had to say "decent" otherwise someone would say "I'm going to finish my Pong game!". It's up to you. Many of your Retrospec games fall under decent.

If you want to make sure: a game that matches along the quality of Sirocco's. ;)

1) Not with the right peace anthem!
2) Macroeconomics is just voodoo based on the illusion of control anyway.
3) No.
4) Doubtful. I've decided to push the release date of my most completed project back from "February" to a more realistic "sometime before the Third Jovian War".

1. Probably. Someone should escalate it and finish it.
2. No. It will bottom out on its own. Obama will get blamed and not win reelection.
3. Wishfull thinking.
4. If I can find the time to learn Boost Asio and program, maybe.

Oh, wait, I'm changing an answer! Hopefully Nial and I will finish plenty more decent iPhone games. We got really good reviews for the last one. And I'm definitely going to 'finish' (read, release at least one proper, tested, public version with a bunch of supported games) my Freescape engine remake during 2009. So it won't all be ugly profiteering.

Re: the economy, will Obama really get blamed? Has it not been really well established now that the crash occurred before his watch? I don't necessarily mean that Obama is a new FDR, but he was well received during the Great Depression even while the economy continued to collapse through his terms.

Yes, I believe Obama will get blamed. People have very short memories and look for the first available scapegoat. Besides, we will fall further into rec(depr?)ession long into his watch and people will think it is his fault.

Yeah, just like Reagan had to deal with a year or two of Carters double-digit inflation effects before his voodoo magic economics lead the economy to record growth. Likewise, Geo Bush Sr (read my lips, no new taxes) rode the magic economy for a while before he managed to ruin it.

I think the economy is going to get worse before it gets better, but if it starts improving within 2.5 years, Obama might not be blamed. Otherwise, I think he's going down, because one of the major promises of this election was fixing the economy.

I have no idea what's going on in the world. People blowing up other people is basically all I hear when people around me talk News.

But as for #4, I'm giving that a strong "It will most definitely be a probably!"

Maybe we should start holding an annual programming competition: You know, "The Year Project" related to year-long events. So the 2009 competition would be based around things that happened in 2008. It could be about a huge FED that is being threatened by massive amounts of Bank and Car Manufacturing zombies looking for Bailouts, and it's your job to protect it before they increase your deficit. Shotguns, small explosives, and melee weapons allowed. ;D

I mean blamed by a sufficient number that his popularity significantly dips. There are probably people already blaming him for the economy.

Rush Limbaugh said: "Just think about it for a minute... who benifits?! Barak Obama and the Democratic party!". He then went on to insinuate that the horrible economy was a Democratic plot to gain control.

Rush Limbaugh, Rush Limbaugh, hmm. Is that the same Rush Limbaugh that said the furor over the "Puff the Magic Negro" song was just an overreaction by the media? Oh, and as far as predictions, I predict Steve Terry's wife will have a baby girl. ;D

I'll have finished my game by this time next year and it'll surely be decent.

As long as it remains classified how long it took me to make I'll be deemed a computer game genius.
