Using MPXPlay as DOS Audio Driver?
Spyridon Gulgas

As Some People noticed, Allegro is losing the way back to where it came starting the 5.x Series! While a few people do want the DOS port in v5, including myself, I'm here not to make a big discussion about that.

But i was wondering, What about using the driver support from MPXPlay as a DOS Audio Driver?

MPXPlay currently is a Audio Player giving audio playback to not only the standard SoundBlaster Cards, but to AC '97 Integrated audio, New SB Live chips and more! It would make a Great addition to the 4.2 Branch! and if DOS support does not live to see v5, then at least let DOS go out with a bang!

the MPXPlay Code is available!

BTW i've heard people porting it on older pcs like spectrum and c64, What about Apple IIGS and PSP for a newer system! Just a suggestion,

plus v4.2.1 or .2 is getting ported to Dreamcast by Chui (a well known developer in the DC Scene)

How about making 4.3 work in DOS first?

Well i know at least version 4.2.2 Works! Someone (i think DJ Delorie himself) Fixes the Headers and crap and makes a working DJGPP Compatable Lib of allegro! (all422.zip) His Site has it available.

What about an Expanded Module for allegro? like to include as .h and .lib? for 4.2.2~

Um, 4.2.2 should compile fine on djgpp.

i had issues Compiling it myself, but i just got the binary from DJGPP site.

Just Curious about the MPXPlay stuff though. Since Windows 3.1x and Windows 95 are not compatable with newer compilers, it's easier to use DOS. and easy to make a little game systems with a low cost x86 board. or just play DOS with newer PCs
