Zaphos: (I quote the post here to save you some time) Quote: With announcements of progress is lab grown meat [slashdot.org] it was suggested that we may be able to eventually eat meat without harming animals. A bit more thought suggests that one could eat human flesh without harming a person. Thinking about this, I asked my friends, if you could clone human muscle tissue in the absence of any other organs, would it be ethical to eat? What if the muscle tissue in question was your own? (Mmmmm, tasty me...) I can't see any problems with it, but my friends were immediately repulsed and insisted that it was fundamentally wrong. So, what so Slashdotters think? If it's wrong, why is it wrong?
So what do y'all say? Wrong or not? ---- -- |

Gnolam: if you can clone stuff for meat why would you clone humans? Wouldn't it make more sense to grow pigs meat in a lab or something like that? on topic: Curry be very very good. Me like curry very very much. -- |

Oh, right... But why would you even begin to think about something like that? I must say I would go with those friends of his who say it would be fundamentally wrong. -- |

Sure, I'd probably eat human grown in a lab, human chili would probably be pretty good. Some people have a habit of chewing their lip or biting their nails, so whats the big dif? But you know if that ever happened there would be some connisseur willing to pay big money for some "Free Range" human. I read somewhere or heard that cannibals say pork taste the most like human. |

I'm from India, and NOT a Tamilian. But Curry is a pretty common dish around here. The smells are dependent on the ingredients used to make it. Fish Curry is always going to stink to high heavens, but Potato Curry won't. I love to read these kinda threads. Miran needs a Veggie Burger! |

Heh, manbeef.com was not a pornographic site (when the link worked, which was a long time ago) ... it was a website claiming to sell human flesh. It didn't actually (that's against FDA standards!), but featured no disclaimer that the site was fake ... in essence it was a overdone gag site designed to cause trouble. Anyway, about the clones thing, that's an interesting point. I guess I'd agree .. but the one guy in that thread had a point: wouldn't that cause mad cow disease?

You won't get Mad Cow Disease/Scrapie/Creutzfeld-Jacobs/Kuru (the cannibals' disease)/etc from eating your own cloned meat - the only way for that meat to contain pathogenic prions would be if you already had the disease to begin with... so in fact eating yourself is probably safer than buying beef -- |

Argh but you see, my guess is that mad cow disease started out as a minimal disease, if at all... perhaps just a small genetic abnormality or something ¦Þ But over time, it developed into what we now know and love
