Short-track speed skating is the only thing worth watching during Winter Olympics. The Koreans were 1-2-3 going into the final turn, when they knocked themselves out trying to pass each other.
Apolo Ohno (USA) takes silver (his sixth career Olympics medal) and John Celski (USA) takes bronze! Canada fails to place despite getting a free spot in the finals.
And what was up with that lame opening day ceremony? Canadians cannot even light a torch!
GO USA!!!!!

Yes, it looks familiar... but it may be just because I was recently on Wikipedia's article for Conway's game of life.

It cannot be any worse than the mayhem in Vancouver right now! Violent Canadian protesters are smashing windows and destroying vehicles.

Theres a couple problems this year. A lot of thing have been different this year some how. A lot of people have been wiping out or totally flipping out. Not to mention the US has been funding their olympic team steadily for decades now. Many countries, including Canada just don't properly fund their team. Which is sad. If we really wanted to "Own the podium" like the advertising claims, we should have been funding our athletes more regularly for the past couple decades.
]]>we should have been funding our athletes more regularly for the past couple decades.
But most Olympic athletes have a turnaround of less than a decade, even 4 years, no?

You think training an olympic athlete takes only 4 years? Not to mention proper equipment and facilities.
Canada just won its 4th gold medal we're 4th over all in golds and total medal count

Funny you mention that....
]]>I haven't watched a single thing. Last I heard there wasn't much snow and the weather was a bit crap with not much visibility.
Saying that, I see Britain won in the women's skeleton (head first sledging really) yesterday. Which is quite good given Canada cheated on this event by allocating their people 10 times the amount of practise runs than every other country.

No chance of us getting the most medals. But we're 5th over all (3rd in gold count). And we're not out of the mens hockey race yet either. Have to beat Germany tomorrow to get in the finals, then we'd play Russia later this week.
append:
Canada is now tied for first in Gold Medal count Suck it USA and Germany. You can have all the bronze medals you want
]]>Lots of silly events over the past few days. Germany was catching up to USA on the power of its sledding, but USA has pulled away again with 32 medals.
Canada has won a lot of gold medals over the past few days, but still sits in fourth place. Could the USA-Canada hockey game determine the country with the most gold medals? But maybe there are still a few more hills for Germany to slide down.
Currently, USA is crushing Finland 6-0 in hockey after 13 minutes of play.

Canada will be guzzling beer to drown thier sorrows. As for the medal count, when we liberate Canada from thier opressive regime like we liberated Iraq and Afghanistan, they can share ours.

I'm out of beer, you insensitive jerks. I've moved on to a bottle of tequila that I've had put away for a couple of months. It's actually not bad with orange juice (after 4 beer).[1]
Ohno robbed by the Canadians! He made a clean pass and got disqualified. Lots of beer for the Canadians tonight!

I did watch the game though. I have to say that Slovakia is a rather scrappy team. They played rather well and managed to force some of the Canadian players to get a little aggressive. HUGE SHOCKER! USA beats Germany in the four man bobsled (first win since 1948) to claim its 9th gold medal and 36th overall. With a guaranteed medal in the hockey final, USA has clinched the MOST MEDALS IN A SINGLE WINTER OLYMPICS of any nation.
Germany has been dethroned as the winter champions by the GREATEST NATION IN THE WORLD, USA!!!

I doubt you can speak for Michigan's winter weather living towards the South side of it (assuming you do). That said, just North of Michigan we barely have any snow left. There was one or two storms early in the season, but lately it's been pretty disappointing for a Canadian winter (which is nice because I've outgrown most winter games and hate cleaning of my car, let alone driving in whiteouts[1]).
And Canada takes Gold in mens hockey 3-2 in OT, breaking the All time record for most gold medals in a single Olympics.

append:
7:6 gold:other medal ratio for Canada.
3:9 gold:other medal ratio for the US.
You probably spent more than Norway did from 1901 to this date in just the last 4 years, and still we have more gold medals than both of you - combined!
[edit]
My sources were a bit off; Norway have 106 gold medals, USA has 88 and Canada 51 according to Wikipedia. It still reeks of failure to me!
Norway has 9 gold. Canada has 14. I'm pretty sure 14 is greater than 9.
]]>Just to clarify: I meant the total number of gold medals won since the first Olympic Winter games in 1901. And yeah, these games haven't been kind to us; with atrocities like some nasty Swedes stealing our cross country medals.

That was just pitiful, really.
Sadly Canada was "favorite" for several events that we failed to even place in got knocked out by a couple thousandths of a second or some such. And then theres womans curling at least we got a silver in that though.

]]>Canada holds on for a 3-2 OT win! They always came energized after intermissions, being fully refreshed from quaffing a few beers!
But it wasn't enough to overtake the USA in the standings, ending a disappointing Olympics. USA's hockey team finished with 16 points to Canada's 14 points! They should have spent some of their billions on the hockey team.
USA finishes with the most medals ever! WE RULE THE WORLD!!!
]]>And Canada beat you in the two stats that matter the most. Gold in hockey, and most golds ever. I can sense the frustration
]]>canada got around half the gold medals awarded
]]>canada got around half the gold medals awarded
Did they black out all of the events that Canada sucked at (i.e., all but 14 of them)?
There were around 85 events. USA medaled in 37 of them. That is nearly half!
Canada got about 15% of the golds. That's a far cry from 50%. Unless, you are counting 30 medals (or whatever) for each hockey team. In which case USA, got more than half of all medals.
Maybe next time (if Canada is ever allowed to host another Olympics) you should spend some of the own the podium billions on a) figuring out how to light a torch, b) some padding so as not to kill people, c) a real police force that can prevent a crazy nut from entering a VIP area uncontested, and d) more beer.
