I know I'm revisiting the DVI problem I had earlier with my monitor. What had happened about a month ago was that I turned on my PC and as soon as Microsoft WindowsTM booted my monitor went dead. After lots of trouble shooting I decided to just try a VGA cable instead which worked, however Microsoft WindowsTM was corrupted. Now after living with VGA for a month I really miss my DVI and I also noticed that my monitor was blurry towards the middle and sharp at the edges... this was odd but I changed my refresh rate to 75hz and the fuzziness went away. I'm still convinced my hardware is OK though. I've heard of certain problems with Nvidia cards not working with DVI or certain DVI cables not working properly or a driver setting that disables DVI. I tried a new DVI cable but I still got a blank screen. I have not eliminated the fact that either my monitor or video card or both are bad. Any tips for things to look for when having DVI problems besides hardware?

What? 3D should have nothing to do with DVI, it sounds like it may possibly be a hardware issue, because you did say the problem happened after a power issue or storm, didn't you?

I mentioned 3d as an example. There could be an incompatibility between the video drivers and something else. Steve mentioned he was looking for possibilities other than hardware. If there was a storm, it may have corrupted the software.

That makes me think it's not at the driver level, but at the hardware level. Unless you somehow disabled something on your card which sticks permanently.

Can you try hooking another DVI monitor to your computer, or hooking your monitor to something else via DVI, so we can narrow down to the video card / monitor?
