Keep it running

I have written a windowed application, but it will only process when I have the window as the top window, if I minimise it freezes until I click on the window again...

How do I tell it to run all the time, regardless of whether it's in focus or not?

EDIT: Sometimes a mode can fail and you may need to try another. Check the return value...
