There is this old Indian (from India) couple living two floors below me and every other day they are cooking up a toxic cloud of curry fumes that permeates the entire building.

Some mornings I wake up choking on the stuff, other times I can't go to sleep at night because the fumes are so strong. Curry for breakfast or a late night snack, how bizzare is that?

Why should I be have to smell that crap while sitting in the privacy of my own apartment? And how does the stench come through floors and walls anyway? Its like Quantum Tunneling stink particles or something.

Well, off to the super Walmart to get another case of air freshener....

In a similar situation, when I was really young I happened to have next door neighbors who weren't Indian, but they lived in India for quite some time. They loved to make curried... anything - mostly rice. Needless to say, our family got invited over there quite often, and so developed that "aquired" taste very early on. I really like curried things, like chicken, rice, shrimp, whatever. I don't care for curried beef though.

Because of Britain's Colonial links you'll find very many people who emigrated from India to Britain (and their children/grandchildren). This also means very many indian restaurants!

I have to say chicken korma is my favourite curry, as some of the others are too hot for me.

Actually there is a wide and diverse range of food restaurants in Britain now. Here in Indian be it any part of it I think curry is almost an integral part of our daily food, though it neednot be very spicy all the time. It can pretty thin or thick depending upon preparation.
It is called with different names in different parts of India.
Rasa in Maharastra(WEST)
Jhol in Bengal (EAST)
Curry in South etc etc.

Quote:

I think Pradeepto Bhattacharya would beat you in a name length competition

Really interesting question

(I quote the post here to save you some time)

Quote:

With announcements of progress is lab grown meat [slashdot.org] it was suggested that we may be able to eventually eat meat without harming animals. A bit more thought suggests that one could eat human flesh without harming a person.

Thinking about this, I asked my friends, if you could clone human muscle tissue in the absence of any other organs, would it be ethical to eat? What if the muscle tissue in question was your own? (Mmmmm, tasty me...) I can't see any problems with it, but my friends were immediately repulsed and insisted that it was fundamentally wrong. So, what so Slashdotters think? If it's wrong, why is it wrong?

Heh, manbeef.com was not a pornographic site (when the link worked, which was a long time ago) ... it was a website claiming to sell human flesh. It didn't actually (that's against FDA standards!), but featured no disclaimer that the site was fake ... in essence it was a overdone gag site designed to cause trouble.
This link might give you the actual pages:
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.manbeef.com

Anyway, about the clones thing, that's an interesting point. I guess I'd agree .. but the one guy in that thread had a point: wouldn't that cause mad cow disease?

This could still be funny for a bit longer...

Watch:

Quote:

Lemma: All chickens taste the same (by induction).

Proof: It's obvious that one chicken tastes the same. Let us assume th proposition P(k) that k chickens taste the same & how this is to imply that k + 1 chickens taste the same.
Given the st k + 1, we remove 1 chicken; the remaining k chickens all taste the same, by hypothesis. We remove another chicken & replace the first; the k chickens, by hypothesis, are again the same flavour. We repeat this, until (by exhaustion) the k + 1 sets of k chickens have been shown to taste the same.
It follows then that since every chicken is the same flavour as every other chicken, P(k) entails P(k + 1). But since we have shown P(1) to be true, P is true for all succeding values of k; ie all chickens taste the same.

Corollary I: Everything tastes the same.

Proof: The proof of the above lemma does not depend on the nature of the object under consideration. The precedate of the antecedant of the universally-quantified conditional “For all x, if x is a chicken, then x all taste the same.”, namely ‘is a chicken’ may be generalised to ‘is anything’ without affecting the validity of the proof. Hence, “For all x, if x is anything, x all taste the same.”
(Incedentally, x all taste the same even if x isn't anything. I'll leave the proof to you.)

Corollary II: Everything tastes of chicken.

Proof: If a sential formula in x is logically true, then any particular substitution instance of it is a true statement. In particular, then “For all x, if x is a dog, then x all taste the same.” is true. Now it is manifestly axiomatic that an amount of dogs greater than 0 taste of chicken. (For proof by blatant assertion, consult Gnolam.) Therefore, by corollary I, everything tastes of chicken.

Q.E.D.

Spot the glaring hole in that logic, and win a mstery prize! (It'll taste of chicken, of course. )
