I'm not sure if I have a virus or what, I scanned with McAfee and it came up with nothing... I haven't opened any strange emails lately .
My computer has basically worked fine for as long as I've had it up until now. About two hours ago I reset the computer and it booted up in 640x480x16 color mode and the mouse wasn't detected. With the keyboard I changed the settings to 800x600x256-color (for some reason you can't set 32-bit color from 16-color mode) and reset, only to still have 640x480x4-bit, and the mouse was still gone. After trying it again a few times without success, I reinstalled WinME. It made the mouse come back, but I still can't change the resolution. I can't program graphics-intense games like this! Does anyone have any clues as to what could have done this and how I could fix it?
On a side note, I can't connect to the IRC server I've been frequenting lately anymore, but I doubt that's related.
Edit: If it's useful, my GFX driver is NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64 Pro v4.0.
-Steve
Any help... please?
[ February 15, 2002: Message edited by: Cheeze ]

Well, I cannot offer any specific help - other than you may want to do a Google search on your specific hardware (esp. video card) and Windows ME.

I'm sure someone else has had the same problem as you, but it's the matter of finding the right answer...

Last thing I can say is that Windows ME isn't too popular of an OS due to bizarre things like you're describing...

not sure but seems like the video driver didn't install correctly,
so Windows use 640x480,16color(safe?)
Try re-install Windows from DOS...

The video driver worked fine up until I rebooted the machine. Stupid thing, maybe I should just download a bootleg copy of WinXP... anyone have trouble with cracks of that? I'm sure Microsoft wouldn't mind me swapping OSs... the first one was defective! Don't they cost the same anyways?

-Steve
