IOTD: Female Elf Warrior
Female Elf Warrior
Female Elf Warrior, by Paul whoknows

I am still playing with this almost-finished head model.
A true eye added in my little free time, I hope to finish it soon, so I can begin with the rest of the body.
I am going to use this character in my game, a 2d side-scrolling RTS & RPG, with pre-rendered sprites.
I don't know if those Dumbo's ears looks good, so comments & critics please.
In my personal opinion, the ears make the elf look more like "Bat Boy" from that weird tabloid magazine. My advice would be to tone it down a little bit, and make the ears shorter and less pointy. Maybe make them look like normal ears, just pointier and sticking out slightly. That's just my opinion though.

Great 3d model!

The problem with night elves, is that I can't find reference images, I have only a few blizzard NE low quality
images, and those NE ears are not so easy to model without good references images.
I'll google for Spock's photos!, good idea!
Thanks for the comments - Paul whoknows
Evan && Sirocco, Tell that to Blizzard.

Night Elves IIRC are Dark Elves (or close too them). And those are freakin every where. - phate
Do a Google Image Search for "Drow". - Sirocco
Done, I don't know who/what Drow is, but I have found www.darkwelf.org and that is exactly what I needed!
Thanks Sirroco.

Night Elves IIRC are Dark Elves
dark elves == black skin + white hair, Night elves == weak blue skin + dark blue hair. - Paul whoknows
They are fantasy characters, thus having a very big difference in appearence from game-to-game, even though named the same. For example, in The Elder Scrolls, the dark elves are dark blue/green skinned with (usually) red hair. - Avenger
If I'm not mistaken, Drow is the dark elves from Never Winter Nights campaign world for old skooling AD&D. Made popular by the moody Elric-esue Drizzt D'urdin from the NWN novels. - Mandrake Root Produc
The ears don't look good, but the rest is great! I agree with Sirocco, Spock ears are as pointy as you should go. You could make them bigger though. - Kauhiz

I personally think the ears are fine in length and design. The main problem I see is that they stick out almost sideways from the head. If you angle them correctly and make them point more "backwards" I think you'll notice that she won't look so weird anymore
Yeah, that's the main problem. They need to be up and back a ways, not just out to the side.

Otherwise, really nice work. - 23yrold3yrold
nice work but the dumbo ears need to go.

references images
umm, it's fictional, why do you need a reference? Go on your own interpretation. - Michael Jensen
It's based on a pre-existing fiction, it should be based on pre-existing references. Otherwise, why bother? - 23yrold3yrold
Nice model! I would change the ears into something a bit less drastic. Of course, if I would do it it would look like crap. But your model proves that you have a high skill level in modeling! / Kent "Napoleon Dynamite" Larsson - Kent Larsson
I have found a few good profile images of elves, and the ears points "backwards" like Ultio and 23YO said, it seems that you both
know elves very well :-)

I agree with 23yo, I am trying to model an elf(well, a NE) , they have a defined anatomy,
anyone who knows elves can say in just one second something like "That humanoid thingy does not look like an elf".
Thanks for all the comments and crits! - Paul whoknows
If it's pointier than Spock, it's probably too pointy ;) - Sirocco

I like Blizzard's ear style for Night Elves. The longer, the better. Otherwise, they race looks just like a blue skinned human with slightly pointy ears. :) You'll notice that their "high elves" have what some people might call more traditionally shaped ears (Spock ears). - Ultio
