IOTD: RIP viewer
RIP viewer
RIP viewer, by gnolam

And now for something completely different!

This is a collage of 4 RIPs, as rendered by my latest project: a RIPscrip Level-0 viewer.

RIPscrip (RIP stands for Remote Imaging Protocol) was a compact vector graphics script language, created in the dark ages when 1200 and 2400 baud modems ruled the market by TeleGrafix to replace ANSI as the format of choice for BBS graphics. It failed to really take off, and then the Internet came along and killed off the BBSes. RIP managed to live on though - it was embraced by the Scene as a minimalist art form (much like ASCII or ANSI art).

I got the idea of creating a RIP viewer quite recently, after this forum thread to be exact, and I have to say the viewer is coming along quite nicely: there are now only about 5 unsupported commands and most .rips (or at least the ones I have on my hard drive, heh :)) are rendered almost exactly as they should be. You can expect a release in a week or two, after I'm through with my exams and I get back from the festival I'm planning to attend :)

The 4 images were all drawn by PiKE, a very talented RIP artist. Credits to him, and fear his mad Remote Imaging Protocol skills! :)
