IOTD: The Mighty Stoopid!
The Mighty Stoopid!
The Mighty Stoopid!, by 23yrold3yrold

Unveiling one of the characters I've been sitting on since 1995 ... The Mighty Stoopid! (don't laugh!!) Okay, he's kind of a senses overload (every color out there ;D) but he's got a cool game coming if I can ever finish it. The big picture was basically my first try at computer coloring a hand-drawn/scanned image, and I think it worked, even though it took me the better part of Saturday. I spent the weekend hammering out a method for making new sprites in a minimum of time, and I think I'm on to something; the three smaller pictures I did today (among some other stuff). They're a little rough, but they'll do for now. Once I finish some actual animations I'll work on making them look as perfect as I can. I drew the bottom sprite first and the top sprite last, and it kind of shows. Gotta work on those springs; I was almost tempted to scratch it all and try for 3D rendered ...

The platformer he stars in basically begins with Earth being invaded by aliens (gosh, how novel!) These aliens, the Da-Dum-Dums, preach a message of ignorance being bliss, and start hammering the population with the Idiot Ray, which cancels everyone's intelligence to 0. TMS, who's intelligence is just a hair above that anyway, is unnaffected. His first reaction is that, since everyone hit by the gun starts acting like him ... it must be a superhero gun! Afraid that if everyone becomes a superhero like him he won't be special anymore, he sets out to stop them. It's got a few plot twists which come out via in-game cinemas which will probably be in the nature of Ninja Gaiden's (though I may try my hand at a fully animated ending if I'm feeling ambitious) and about 9 levels, each of which consists of at least 2 stages and a boss.

TMS's moves consist mostly of accidents. His kick there in the middle is slipping on a pebble. Crouching consists of (in one smooth motion) noticing a dime on the ground, bending over, and picking it up. Remaining crouched just causes an animation where he just stays bent over, examining it until you release the D-Pad, at which point he stands and pockets it. Put bluntly, if someone were watching you over your shoulder during a big fight, they would think you were the luckiest SOB on God's green Earth, just from the way TMS behaves. Of course, the DDD's aren't much better :)

I'm sure I forgot to mention something, but then I'm sure someone will start a thread heckling this presently :P If this sort of IotD is cool by Matthew, maybe I'll post some other game art (or even non-game art ;)) ...
