IOTD: Deathchase 3d
Deathchase 3d, by Thomas Harte
Deathchase 3d was originally an Allegro/DOS game about which I had a change of heart and ported to OpenGL at the last minute. As a result it uses OpenGL for triangle rasterisation only, using Allegro's matrix manipulation and projection for everything else. The project pre-dates AllegroGL so is actually a Win32 application which just happens to include sections of Allegro source code. George Foot later ported it to AllegroGL, but I really can't remember what I did with that source... Anyway, its an update of a ZX Spectrum game, was written in one week total, and will run on anything with an OpenGL supporting 3d accelerator. The original development machine was a P200 with 3dfx voodoo. The graphics are not great, but the gameplay is compelling in doses. Source code and binaries are available, full details of that sort of thing are in the Allegro.cc listing. The Gallery | Add your own image! |
