Just a minor update, I just realized I hadn't updated these games on this website's depot in a very long time! Deluxe Pacman 1 was way out of date on here and Deluxe Pacman 2 had a page, but no files as I had just started it at the time (6 years ago, LMAO). So while browsing the depot I came across the forgotten pages for my game and decided to update them. Deluxe Pacman 1 (Allegro 4) comes it just under 3 megs. Deluxe Pacman 2 (Allegro 5) squeezes in at just under the 10meg limit! Yay! Screenshots and the latest files for both are there. Updates will be on my homepage (if any). Older DOS versions are available on my homepage, which are great for use with DOSBOX + Non-Windows platform. Both games are considered "completed". If I find bugs I will update them. Both have level editors etc. They both use quite a few features from both versions of Allegro 4 and 5. --- |

I've played Deluxe Pacman 2 before, but not 1. Is there a big difference between the two? Or is 2 pretty much a beefed-up, more modern recreation of 1?

2 uses improved graphics, a few new ideas like an energy bar you gain energy when you eat and can use it to speed up. It was a good idea on paper anyhow. It's slightly different, slightly more improved and uses Allegro 5. The first one I started to program back in... 1999 I think? I honestly forget the exact date now it's been so long. I think I started to code it with a later version of Allegro 3, Allegro 3.9 or something for DOS which I later updated for Windows over the years, raised the resolution etc... the original has slightly reduced graphic quality. I originally made the game as my own version of the same game created by Edgar Vigdal for the Amiga. I had emailed him way back then and got his permission to recreate it for the PC, but it wasn't an exact duplicate. I done my own thing after a while, mainly made it for my wife who liked the game and missed playing it after I built a PC (Commodore went bankrupt so I finally switched to a PC from my Amiga). In 2009 I started to think about redoing the game from scratch, and in 2012 with allegro 5, I finally got down to coding it and trying to improve it. Grab version 1 and play it! It's only just over 2M! LMAO, not a huge download. But man, I checked online and version 1 has been downloaded literally MILLIONS of times over the years, mainly in south american nations, but I had some downloads in UAE, Tunisia I think it was (next to Libya) and some far out places like that I heard from which has been kewl. I have stopped working on it except for updates given that it has been 17 or 18 years... maybe 19? Since I started it. On my website (link in my sig) I have an older 8bit version of the game for older Windows, v1.22, and an older 8bit version of the game for DOS, v1.02 which runs fine using DOSBOX (which means you can run it on other platforms like LINUX that have a DOS emulator) --- |

Hi Neil, I played your game (Deluxe Pacman 2) and I liked it. The graphics are really nice and shiny, game play is smooth and responsive. I love that additions you made to the game, like the energy bar, teleports. I laughed out loud when I pulled out the gun and shot the ghosts! I really like that you include a level editor, and its very well done and easy to use. There was one minor thing, I wanted to mention: Like for example on the fullscreen / windowed... Maybe, I'm not explaining this well... Your buttons have three colors: unselected = dark blue When the highlight is on a button, you can't tell if it is selected or not Its very minor thing, and easy to work around, and doesn't spoil the otherwise Thanks for replying and helping me here in the forums when I had questions. If I remember right, you're also Canadian, right? I was thinking of setting up a donate button and paypal account for my project.

That actually bothers me too believe it or not. Not sure how to remedy that, I may work on a solution and update the game once more. The only reason I haven't updated it before now is you usually set the options once and don't touch it all that often so it was low on my list of things to fix and just never got done. Quote: If I remember right, you're also Canadian, right? Yuppers. Born in Quebec City, living in Ontario. Quote: I was thinking of setting up a donate button and paypal account for my project. Not hard at all! Just set up a Paypal account, link it to your bank and there are easy options to embed a link for donations they have on t he site, just copy and paste the HTML, that's it. There's recently a new feature with a single link to a special donation page for your account, also easy. With that said, unless you have a REALLY fantastic project, donations don't tend to come in that much. My game has been downloaded literally millions of times (I am not exaggerating) yet I can count on my hands how many have donated anything. If I had to do over again, I would have sold my game really cheap instead, like... $5 or something. But I mainly made it for my wife so I wasn't concerned with that at the time. --- |

I was thinking something like leaving it the way you have to show if something is selected or not and having a circle outline to show where the current position is. I'm from the prairies, Alberta, Saskatchewan, BC are my stomping grounds. Is there any tax stuff involved with setting up a paypal acct?

Yes, that was exactly what I was thinking as well. Quote: Is there any tax stuff involved with setting up a paypal acct?
You can just set up a personal account, it's all mine is. The tax stuff is the usual, IF you get any donations, I think that would count as income, but I wouldn't expect to get enough of them to matter. But I'm no tax expert nor have I received enough for it to matter. On my personal account, just recently they started a new donation link which was pretty much already to go. Here's mine... You can set it up so that it is specific amounts or like mine, they enter what they wish. --- |
