The first 4 maps were really easy, I didn't really know what is happening (it wasn't actually me hitting the monsters but the green guys!) but still won. Then come the gray wastelands... and after dying maybe 10 times I started realizing it's all about blocking paths and relying on both the soldiers' and monsters' path finding. And then I lost another 10 times. And then this happened:

{"name":"611102","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/0\/2\/02321891d55c8b923d49e4b7d22fabaa.png","w":1920,"h":1080,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/0\/2\/02321891d55c8b923d49e4b7d22fabaa"}611102

Everyone died and I was about to press R when I realized the soldier under me was not being hit by anything. Standing protected between me and the wall made him completely invincible and I had to do nothing but wait a long time and win :D

I really liked the atmosphere with the music and mysterious story and background pictures... leading to the pixel art gameplay :)

Excellent entry! It made sense, I was challenged, I lost, I won and I played it again.

With where this is at, I wonder what one more day of coding would've gotten it.

Haxx.

Seriously though, at around 1AM, 4 hours before the deadline I realized my pathfinding was complete garbage. I tried to fix a little bit, but it's still terrible and easily exploitable (at least if you do nothing you at least lose now).

Nice, thanks!

I managed to create an OSX app out of this, feel free to try it as well.

In before thread lock! ;D

The second map (Gehenna) seemed impossible to me - three soldiers, four devils, I can only be in one place at a time, and my soldiers lose 2 while the devils lose 1. What am I doing wrong?

I think the basic strategy is that you can always block at least two devils, one by body blocking and another by kissing. I think Elias found that you can exploit the pathfinding by running around the devils while the soldiers shoot them up.
