Your internet speed

Just to get a bearing on what is considered normal these days, would anyone be willing to state what their current and/or desired internet speed is, both down and up?

When my Internet is down, I don't expect any throughput at all. The rest of the time, 1.21 GW.

Yes, I remember you 8-)

Currently the best I can get at my apartment is 20 Mb/s down and around 1 Mb/s up. I'd like to go a bit higher, particularly for steam game downloads, but it doesn't bother me otherwise. I'd like a better Mb/$ ratio though, I'm paying $70 a month right now for it >:(.

I'm supposed to get 32 Mb/s down and 4 Mb/s up, but it's shared so it rarely reaches that. I just used speedof.me to check, and I'm currently getting 9.54 down and 3.16 up. It usually drops this low when someone is streaming in 4K.

Used speedof.me that Eric used and I am getting 47Mbps down, 10Mbps up. Though I rarely need high speed, when I do need it for larger downloads, the speed seems reasonable. My ISP actually more than doubled my speed for me over the past few years at no extra cost, so I am very happy. I think I started out with something like 20down, so... not complaining.

200 Mbps down / 20 Mbs up.

(I spend $80 USD a month. I suppose it's not too bad--price or speed--compared to the most of the United States.)

This is a a glorious 50Mb 4G connection. Due to geographical limitations the cell is congested. Can you tell?

Here in the island the connection is really bad, they have been installing optical fiber recently, though.

Good lord. How are so many people using such bad internet?

(When it's not broken like today:) I get 65 mbit down and maybe 10 or 15 up.

On a good day, I can watch 1080p YouTube videos like they're more-or-less instant with <5 seconds delay. I've watched 4K videos but it feels like I'm ~10 years back in time with with regard to loading times.

I think I pay ~$60 plus taxes. It's a typical Charter plan in the US with no cable TV attached to it (because !@$! commercials).

My cellphone internet through T-Mobile is comparable to many of the lower speeds posted. :o But it's also super finicky and only works well on a rare good day.

I don't know how you guys do it. I wouldn't be able to work from home and RDP into servers with connections like that. :o :o :o

And with my 65, I'm still pissed enough to join and support anyone who dares attack the Comcast/Charter oligarchy compared to the gigabit in better countries. I've actually seriously considered moving to specific cities just for gigabit access.

At home and over wifi:

{"name":"610830","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/0\/d\/0d84a3a337694762bfe28eae1b88e9fd.png","w":501,"h":251,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/0\/d\/0d84a3a337694762bfe28eae1b88e9fd"}610830

Though, annoyingly, I still get latency spikes sometimes when playing games :\

Do you guys know about Fast.com?

It's been shown that some/many speed test websites are corrupted by either explicit bribery, or, implicit speed up, where the ISP prioritizes all traffic to a known speedtest website. So you'll get faster speeds to a speedtest website than your normal traffic. (Dicks.)

So Fast.com is setup by Netflix. (Measures download only.) No ads. Nothing but a speed test result. But the key here is, it's your download connection straight to Netflix's servers. So since it's the SAME servers you get your content from, even if your ISP is throttling, or prioritizing, that's your same speed to Netflix content.

Right now I'm getting 500 Kbps. :o Fast enough for "the text version of the internet." :) Feels like I'm back in 1997.

This thread feels like a competition of awfulness.
After moving to a new house(newly built multi apartment building), there seems to be only one ISP. Rostelecom, it's the largest ISP in Russia, mostly owned by the government(although there is some free float). It's awfully expensive, I pay about 12$/mo.

Before this I paid half that. And my speed is.. (test server is abroad, but not far away)
{"name":"6145046290.png","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/c\/3\/c33e23cf822debd3858870e09cfee1d2.png","w":350,"h":200,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/c\/3\/c33e23cf822debd3858870e09cfee1d2"}6145046290.png

At my previous place I had over 200 Mbit, torrent movies were downloading at rates around 25 megaBYTES per second.
