I've just upgraded my PC to be UHD gaming capable. The assembly went well - there were no space issues or funny hiccups, and the system booted perfectly first time. The new parts I have are: Motherboard: MSI X99A Godlike Gaming {"name":"609665","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/9\/d\/9dcd130d9a91b473716e8c5b7ea7eba3.jpg","w":1102,"h":912,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/9\/d\/9dcd130d9a91b473716e8c5b7ea7eba3"} {"name":"609666","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/7\/b\/7b44d0eb6e479b20fe3f0561d0ccb5cf.jpg","w":1141,"h":936,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/7\/b\/7b44d0eb6e479b20fe3f0561d0ccb5cf"} CPU: Intel i7-5930KM {"name":"609659","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/d\/9\/d9f7b0244bf0ab5e0055b8b4b0e803fa.jpg","w":845,"h":929,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/d\/9\/d9f7b0244bf0ab5e0055b8b4b0e803fa"} {"name":"609660","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/d\/e\/de4759714d277601b95d8109c5a7ed63.jpg","w":935,"h":934,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/d\/e\/de4759714d277601b95d8109c5a7ed63"} CPU Cooler: Corsair H80i GT {"name":"609663","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/0\/b\/0bf45329ec8851d82606309694e1cca5.jpg","w":1168,"h":936,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/0\/b\/0bf45329ec8851d82606309694e1cca5"} {"name":"609664","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/f\/5\/f55a827c7f00b4a2774cf4e1ed9eb662.jpg","w":1682,"h":934,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/f\/5\/f55a827c7f00b4a2774cf4e1ed9eb662"} RAM: 32Gb G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 DDR4 2800MHz {"name":"609667","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/e\/6\/e625867cc6a0ab45206a40e98cce4fc6.jpg","w":1115,"h":941,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/e\/6\/e625867cc6a0ab45206a40e98cce4fc6"} {"name":"609668","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/2\/4\/241a38373dea8805610c65ca91dd372e.jpg","w":2124,"h":943,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/2\/4\/241a38373dea8805610c65ca91dd372e"} Graphics Card: 6Gb Gigabyte NVIDIA GTX 980ti {"name":"609661","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/d\/f\/df1a7565cd59ad00281c3535462e3662.jpg","w":1664,"h":936,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/d\/f\/df1a7565cd59ad00281c3535462e3662"} {"name":"609662","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/5\/9\/5930a2c0a78402493c8a5f86a06a06ae.jpg","w":2284,"h":937,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/5\/9\/5930a2c0a78402493c8a5f86a06a06ae"} I haven't had a chance yet to have a good sit down and get all the over-clocking set up, but even straight out of the box, games are running at 3980x2160 really well. I have Path of Exile (which is notoriously poorly optimized) running at between 250-350 fps.

Now it's Edgar's turn to upgrade. That's cool. The i7 has had a lot of staying power. Must be a really good chip. -- |

Show us the assembled unit! My computer is still surviving so I have no desire to attempt to rebuild it anytime soon. Which is good because I also have no money for it! Hah! I would love to be able to play The Witcher 3, and I have no idea if my hardware could handle it, but since it is Windows only at this time I don't have to worry about that. I'll reassess my hardware when a Linux-compatible game becomes available that I must have. Or my hardware just fails. My Athlon X2 @ 2.6 GHZ and GTX 560 SE are still going strong. Only the beginning of this year was it finally too slow to run a game... ARK: Evolved. I'd love to upgrade, but money isn't there right now. -----sig: |

I'll be rebuilding a pc soon. I can't say the hardware will be impressive though. It's an atx and I could not find a lot of mobos for it. I did a search for memory modules but did not find any. I think the board comes with some though. By reading this sig, I, the reader, agree to render my soul to Bob Keane. On the contrary, it's gonna burn if it wasn't for those fans. You don't deserve my sig. |

I can't really imagine any reason to have i7 for home vs i5, but oh well. Append: Oh, I love your ram. Everyone seems to understimate the importance of latencies on these chips, & cut corners where they shouldn't be cut(like having i7 with 1600mhz would be utterly dumb, and yet it's common). Append1:

I wonder how much money the development teams spend into making the components look so flashy. wow |

Intel doesn't seem to be spending much on that {"name":"4890-formula-1gb.jpg","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/2\/d\/2de4c441c3d72e8b3b585ea5b10acf7b.jpg","w":450,"h":300,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/2\/d\/2de4c441c3d72e8b3b585ea5b10acf7b"} This for example seems a little too much, despite them saying it uses Formula 1 design to enhance cooling effectiveness :|

I got my new mouse home today. I ended up biting the bullet and bidding on a G9x on E-Bay. I got this one for USD$100. Steep, but I like these mice, it's supposed to be like new, and these mice usually sell for about USD$400! Unfortunately, I didn't win my bids on Das Keyboards which I needed more. -- acc.js | al4anim - Allegro 4 Animation library | Allegro 5 VS/NuGet Guide | Allegro.cc Mockup | Allegro.cc <code> Tag | Allegro 4 Timer Example (w/ Semaphores) | Allegro 5 "Winpkg" (MSVC readme) | Bambot | Blog | C++ STL Container Flowchart | Castopulence Software | Check Return Values | Derail? | Is This A Discussion? I ended up biting the bullet and bidding on a G9x on E-Bay. I got this one for USD$100. That's more than I paid for my motherboard. I hope you got your money's worth. <edit> My pc at my night job has is not getting along with my printer. Tech support has ordered a new computer.
