1440x900. Do you have any idea how hard it is to mouse around when the screen is sideways?

It's kinda scary that my 5" phone screen has the same resolution as my 27" monitor.

Last summer, someone showed an interest in me. Our schedules are such that we almost never see each other. I think I'll resolve to see her more and maybe ask her out. Or get a clarinet. 1366 x 768, but that is too ambitious. I think I'll drop to 800 x 600.

By reading this sig, I, the reader, agree to render my soul to Bob Keane. I, the reader, understand this is a legally binding contract and freely render my soul.

1280 * 800 on this Win8 tablet.

I will update seasonal old projects of mine. For Valentine's day I have one game and one unfinnished application. For Easter I have my eggifyer graphic application and one puzzle game. For Halloween I have a game or two. For Christmas I have some promising finished and unfinished Christmas hack games, as well as a snowflake editor. For any time of the year I could release a set of jigsaw puzzles with my LePuzz game. Only needs collecting 8 jpg pics of 640*480 with seasonal motifs. And creating an A4 datafile with grabber.

No, not all of them! What were you thinking?! Maybe one.

Not really a resolution, but I'd like to get some personal projects finished. Both programming and irl stuff.

My laptop is 1080p which is nice. super clear text. My nexus 7 is 720p, which is also good. Nexus 4 is also basically 720p, which is crazy. Not as crazy as the nexus 5 at 1080p. But still pretty crazy. So tempted to get the nexus 5 but my nexus 4 still works really really well. no reason what so ever to get a nexus 5. Well, my nexus 4 usb jack broke a little while ago, and that could have been a good excuse, but google was good enough to replace the entire phone without any real hassle.

Want a good cheap smart phone? Get a nexus. No questions.

As for hobby projects:

- FTL + SS13 game. On hold due to lack of short-term interest, and a need to get a job.

- 8088 CPU implemented on a simple microcontroller. Did you know DIV/MUL takes on the order of 190 cycles to compute on a 808[6/8]?!

You know you can buy simple mcu's based on the 8088?

I resolve to stop getting delayed by stupid design problems and actually MAKE games for a change. :P

To that end, my current project is about to get a heck of a lot simpler than it once was. I'm taking out many of the features I had planned and will probably end up with something that I won't be able to sell at the $10 level like I wanted to. :-/

Ah well. Making a bunch of "little" $5 games would be a lot more profitable than spending massive amounts of time just trying to make one $10 game, and would better fit how little time I have outside of working on my web show anyways.

(And by "little" I mean, not complicated; probably hold someone's attention for at least 5 to 10 hours if they enjoy it.)

You can always extend the game later. a second version, or addon/dlc content. each update that contains new major features could be a couple bucks?

You know you can buy simple mcu's based on the 8088?

I have an 8088. Owning one isn't the point. For instance, if I implement an 8088 and can reduce it to a single cog of a Parallax Propeller, that's 8 8088's sharing a 32-bit bus. Combine multiple Propellers to that bus and you've got 8xN crappy small CPU's that can run (old) Linux Kernels. Add a bus arbiter so each Propeller has it's own 32-bit bus and you've got a new, vintage, super computer. I can even use 90's era super computing books that I have.

And it's more about learning than it is about accomplishing something radical. With the great bonus of being able to connect to the gigantic database of software that is Linux. I'll probably have to recompile quite a bit to only use 8086/8 instructions, or, if I have more time, implement a 386/486. But must be much more difficult, because very few 386/486 CPU's exist in Soft Core, or language format compared to 8086's which are abundant and even used for easy competitions.

To that end, my current project is about to get a heck of a lot simpler than it once was.

Make a game with a lot of odds-and-ends. So if you get bored with one aspect, you can try another.

Also, if you're doing something that people might be interested in... show it off. I mean, that people can give you praise for if it looks neat. Because that praise can be rewarding even if you're extremely anti-fame/leave-me-alone like I am. I posted a pic about my stalled SS13+FTL game on a SS13 server when the topic came up and everyone when HOLY CRAP, THAT'S AMAZING. Which perked me up about the project a bit.

Don't go to Reddit, though. Redditors are assholes. They make our grammatical nazism look like Disney.

Still 2048x1152. >:(

Hmm, I don't make a habit of making resolutions (since they are nearly meaningless). That said, it would be nice to:

  • Consistently get enough sleep. I.e., Get to bed at a more "early" time (i.e., before 11 PM every night).

  • Cut back on alcohol (predominantly beer), and/or quit entirely.

  • Find a better job. Better in every way. Better paying, better technology, better practices, better colleagues, etc. A job that doesn't provoke alcohol consumption would be nice. ;)

  • Make a habit of being regularly physically active. E.g., bicycle riding, skiing, whatever.

  • Get better gear for motorcycle riding (i.e., I need gauntlet-style gloves and leather pants) and strive to improve upon safe riding skills and just build skill/confidence.

  • Insert: Enroll in a "real" advanced motorcycle course and/or "track day" that involves high speeds and/or pushing the limits of the motorcycle.

  • Take some longer trips on my motorcycle perhaps over a long weekend or during vacation time.

  • Perhaps "get out" more. Meet an attractive and intelligent woman. Woo and/or capture her. >:(

  • Either perform "housework" consistently or hire an affordable cleaning lady to do it for me.

  • Cook something in my new slow cooker. [And wash it shortly afterwards..]

  • Insert: Eat more food (I'm rather underweight) and eat healthier, more balanced food.

  • Increase the thread and post count delta on A.cc. >:(

I've been doing a web show since 2010 with moments where I poke a giant Fluttershy plushie (which I made myself) because I left a game going and when I came back, the game was won, and use a nuke to try to escape my basement after getting trapped by a giant bubble... I don't think "anti-fame" would apply to me. ;D

But yeah, I've been doing free public alphas of my game and will be getting back into doing that once I have all my design issues sorted and get back to coding. (The present pubic alpha on my website is horribly out of date.) Once it's done, I'll also be letting people know about the game on my web show, and I also have a couple friends who're far more popular than I am who may be able to help drive some interest my way too. :)

I've just never run into such a vicious design cycle before, and after all this effort I REALLY just wanna get something made and move on to other projects. :P

I feel the same way about my current stuff too. I've been hung up on this same design point for a while now.

My resolutions? 1280x800 (lappie LCD) , 1600x1200 (old CRT) , 1080p(HDTV)

Hey, you know what 360p video looks pretty good fullscreened.

I want to lose weight, so I should exercise more and eat less. I also want a GF, so I should spend more time on dating sites too. Man, two cute girls just a little younger than me in the coffee house last night, but they always leave before I get a chance to meet them.

Doesn't the item above that solve the issue? Or maybe this one solves the prior one. :-X

Things like "go to bed earlier" and "drink less" are very easy to accomplish. Just set a timer at 11PM and go to bed. Don't buy beer. :P

Not so easy when you spend most of your waking minutes before 11 PM at a soul sucking job for bad money. You just want to stay up and consume information and/or challenge yourself. Drunk.

Then don't work so much. There are some good reasons to overwork, but if the job has a ceiling and you aren't learning anything, then there probably isn't any reason to.

What's the worst that can happen? They fire you, you go on unemployment, and you use the time to find a better job. It's not that scary.

I haven't though of making any resolutions per se, but I have been brewing this idea of quitting my job. I've began to loathe it and hate significant portion of the people I have to work with so I think this is the year I'm going to leave.

You don't deserve my sig.

Not really a New Year resolution as I find these stupid, but I really need to shape up. Plus I'd like to manage my time better so I'd be able to tend to my personal projects and hobbies besides job and pursuing PhD degree.

Matthew was faster, these two solve each other pretty well :D The trick to the first one is not to drink alone and don't push too hard ;)
