Quick Tag Buttons |

One feature of other forums that I like are quick tag buttons. You know, you click the "quote" button, and "

" will automatically fill in where your cursor is, and then it will sutomatically re-adjust your cursor so that it is in between the tags. Same goes for code tags and picture tags. It just saves a little time, that's all. My Games: |

Hmm, well I was totally unaware of that feature. Thanks for pointing that out! My Games: |

"View Source" is a wonderful tool. Especially if you can select a small portion of the page and view source to that bit only. They all watch too much MSNBC... they get ideas. |

In the past the argument has basically been made that rich toolbars like that aren't implemented on A.cc because it makes it too easy for n00bs to abuse features. If a member of a game programming discussion board isn't competent enough to type out the simple codes to achieve markup then they probably don't need the feature. I actually much prefer typing the code out anyway. Using a GUI interface to markup text is dreadfully slow by comparison. If there were keyboard shortcuts to do it that might be different, but who wants to learn those for each individual site they use? It's much easier to just type a common wiki or [more often, for 99% reliability] XHTML dialect. You can implement custom JavaScript to create your own shortcuts. After years of doing things the long/hard way I finally did this. Primarily I use it for quoting, since that's the only tedious part, and only because you have to go back and forth on the page[1] to copy/paste the name, URI, and contents of the post you're quoting. Typing code tags is easy. Far easier than moving your hand to the mouse to click a graphical icon.

Matthew, can you update formating help with information about references (I do not know how to create them) and code line highlighting? "God starts from scratch too" |
