James, the reflexions of the Sun shouldn't look like they were painted on the water. I mean, the perspective thing is wrong here. The reflexion path almost never gets wider near the shore. It's actually the opposite. It's not the perspective that acts here, but the roughness of the sea. Other than that, I love the picture. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Years of thorough research have revealed that what people find beautiful about the Mandelbrot set is not the set itself, but all the rest. |

That second one is much better than the first attempt. Great atmosphere in there. About the reflection: It all depends on whether the see is rough or calm, the height of the sun, camera angle, clouds. Google image search for "sunset at sea". --- 0xDB | @dennisbusch_de --- |

The rectangular area or parallel edges is kind of the normal one. And it might also widen towards the horizon, due to the structure of the water surface, i.e. more wind the farther out you are. But it should almost never widen towards the viewer, like it would follow some perspective lines. The waves diffuse reflection is like gl_shininess, and since the nearer reflections are more diffuse, I can only speculate that the water is glassy offshore. They all watch too much MSNBC... they get ideas. |

That does sound like a plausible explanation. Also the clouds in the first and haze in the second linked picture above could play a role. In the end it means the artist does have some freedom though - unless they draw a scene with parallel waves and a clear sky -- |

Look at the images brought up by the icons to the left of Elias' link.
