I like the way you keep the thread alive Paul and looking forward to James' contributions and everyone else, come on, doodle . --- another one featuring the still quite unrefined "Panzerwurm" --- --- 0xDB | @dennisbusch_de --- |

Hey Dennis! that process video you posted is great! it seems you paint first and add line later, I do exactly the opposite I would like to make a process video like you did, can you explain how I can make it and what tools did you use? By the way, the painting software you're using looks relly professional. Please keep posting more process videos like this!!! ____ "The unlimited potential has been replaced by the concrete reality of what I programmed today." - Jordan Mechner. |

Paul whoknows said: it seems you paint first and add line later, I do exactly the opposite I don't always take that approach and usually do the lines first as well but I'm currently exploring all sorts of different possibilities, trying to speed up my process and finding new ways (new to me at least) to make stuff. Quote: I would like to make a process video like you did, can you explain how I can make it and what tools did you use? By the way, the painting software you're using looks relly professional. The software is indeed ArtRage Studio Pro as J-Gamer said (and I think I mentioned it earlier in some post) and it's in an affordable price range for 80 USD (as opposed to the hundreds of bucks something like Painter or Photoshop would cost). I like how the interface is intuitive and largely clutter free. For recording the video I used CamStudio(OpenSource) software in combination with the Xvid MPEG4 CODEC (has to be installed separately) and in the CODEC configuration selected the profile "unrestricted". For post processing the video (originally about two hours in length) I used VirtualDub(OpenSource) to change the source framerate and to speed up the target framerate. If you need more details on using those tools feel free to ask (or google, heh ). Quote: Please keep posting more process videos like this!!! That was the plan. --- 0xDB | @dennisbusch_de --- |

Thanks for the video from me as well! One of the areas I want to significantly improve in is drawing trees and grass. This was my last attempt, for SpeedHack 2009, which I'm not especially proud of but it was also under a time restraint. Edit: How much did you speed up the video?

Hell Dennis, thanks for those videos !! I have a request though: if you feel nice enough to do it with a real pencil I would love to have a video of a draw !! "Code is like shit - it only smells if it is not yours" |

GameCreator said: One of the areas I want to significantly improve in is drawing trees and grass. Those are two areas I need to improve on as well. My main problem with trees is that I still don't think sufficiently three-dimensional when I draw them and it's not easy to abstract hundreds of leafs and branches into a few well defined shapes without taking away the one characteristic thing which makes a tree look like a tree: leafs and branches! When rendering grass I found the rule "less is more" applies and I only draw defined strokes of grass in areas where there is something else interesting enough to see. Somehow I seem to use the grass to emphasize other objects in a scene and leave all other areas covered by the grass empty (and then sometimes I use it to suggest z-depth as can be seen in the first Panzerwurm doodle earlier in this thread where patches of grass are big in the front and small in the back). GullRaDriel said: if you feel nice enough to do it with a real pencil I would love to have a video of a draw !! Okay. Haven't drawn with a real pencil in a while but here we go. {"name":"604310","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/e\/3\/e364f04198bf7a687c22e12cbcb3cb78.png","w":489,"h":367,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/e\/3\/e364f04198bf7a687c22e12cbcb3cb78"} introducing "ghetto cam stand" (highly inflexible, unportable, one-shot solution): edit/append: GameCreator said: How much did you speed up the video? Activity! I like. I should try drawing a bird/parrot thing too as that seems to be a neat subject and I like how you've rendered the pecker, Peter. On James croco-like creature I like the head the most.
