You should try switching C: and / to an SSD now. that blew me away yet again. My linux systems with a SSD start up in 8 seconds (not counting the shitty ass BIOS delays) to the KDM login. KDE also starts up a hell of a lot faster. Now my desktop has a crappy IO problem so its not starting up as fast as it could, I bet it could start up to KDE in about 10 seconds if it weren't for the stupid mobo, rather than just to KDM in 8. -- |

Well, an SSD might be a bit expensive over here especially. I don't really have any plans for my next upgrade. I would have to save money again, probably for a new GPU. This one's already getting a bit old. Aaaand I'm totally out of ideas what to do now with so much free space now. It's kind of the "I have so many options so I can't decide which one to choose" attitude. TranslatorHack 2010, a human translation chain in a.cc. |

Install a torrent client, it'll blow that kind of thoughts away rather quickly.

Go brag somewhere else TF. Anyway, Ubuntu in a VM works just fine using 3D hardware acceleration. I'll try tomorrow and install A5 from SVN. Hopefully, I'll be able to build my games on it just fine, and distribute Linux versions. ^_^ type568 said: Install a torrent client, it'll blow that kind of thoughts away rather quickly. I already got a torrent client, but I don't have anything in mind, and I don't really want to. I'll probably install most of my multiplayer games and have some fun. I will also keep my other favourite games(such as Baldur's Gate, IWD, etc.) to rip resources from. And to give it a playthrough once in a while. He was my server for a year or two, didn't expect to upgrade him so fast tbh. He's now my home theater PC. Chauncey: Natasha: Nell: Lisa: I don't use Nell much anymore though. type568 said: Then you didn't mention the most important: What's your bandwidth? Local Area Network bw is 70MB/s. Note though, it generally takes me a year or two to actually fill up 1TB of space, at least of stuff I actually want to keep. I bought boris about a year ago, and had about 1TB of space free. Now it shows 30G but theres a bunch of stuff I can delete, and will eventually. -- |

Even when I was at my sister's I found performance to be ok. I could get 2mbps or 5mbps upload (with 25 and 100 mbps down respectively) with my ISP but those options are like $106/mo and $160/mo. Something I just can't afford. -- |

I've enabled jumbo-frames on my gigabit LAN, and haven't had any issues with 100mbps devices, or devices not supporting jumbo frames. I know you've said something about this several times though, I just don't remember what exactly you said. |

Mark Oates said: Are they all in the same room? Aren't all those computers loud? Nope. And the desktop is rarely on, but its completely silent from a few feet away when it is on. The server is in a little spare room I have. The laptop is pretty quiet. And the HTPC is only on when I'm watching tv or listening to music with it. And its fairly quiet. According to the standard, devices that don't support jumbo frames won't understand the packets coming at them. I've tried enabling jumbo frames, and it causes some of my devices to not see any traffic from machines with jumbo frames enabled. -- |
