And Canada takes Gold in mens hockey 3-2 in OT, breaking the All time record for most gold medals in a single Olympics.

You know that only $117,000,000 (cad) over 5 years was spent on the "Own The Podium" program right?

In fairness, we probably did pay for it ...

Its not the billions Matthew claimed ;) And our total investment in "Own the Podium" probably matches what was spent on the US Hockey team the past 1-2 years ;)

append:

7:6 gold:other medal ratio for Canada.
3:9 gold:other medal ratio for the US.

You probably spent more than Norway did from 1901 to this date in just the last 4 years, and still we have more gold medals than both of you - combined!

[edit]
My sources were a bit off; Norway have 106 gold medals, USA has 88 and Canada 51 according to Wikipedia. It still reeks of failure to me!

Norway has 9 gold. Canada has 14. I'm pretty sure 14 is greater than 9.

Just to clarify: I meant the total number of gold medals won since the first Olympic Winter games in 1901. And yeah, these games haven't been kind to us; with atrocities like some nasty Swedes stealing our cross country medals.

[edit]
Not to mention the abysmal performance by our ski jumping and Nordic combined teams. That was just pitiful, really.

Sadly Canada was "favorite" for several events that we failed to even place in :( got knocked out by a couple thousandths of a second or some such. And then theres womans curling :( at least we got a silver in that though.

Own the Podium. We clearly bought our gold medals... ::)

And the US bought all of its bronze medals. What exactly is the difference? All countries invest in getting medals at the games.

Canada holds on for a 3-2 OT win! They always came energized after intermissions, being fully refreshed from quaffing a few beers!

But it wasn't enough to overtake the USA in the standings, ending a disappointing Olympics. USA's hockey team finished with 16 points to Canada's 14 points! They should have spent some of their billions on the hockey team. :-/

USA finishes with the most medals ever! WE RULE THE WORLD!!!

And Canada beat you in the two stats that matter the most. Gold in hockey, and most golds ever. I can sense the frustration ;)

Did they black out all of the events that Canada sucked at (i.e., all but 14 of them)?

There were around 85 events. USA medaled in 37 of them. That is nearly half! :o

Canada got about 15% of the golds. That's a far cry from 50%. Unless, you are counting 30 medals (or whatever) for each hockey team. In which case USA, got more than half of all medals. :o

Maybe next time (if Canada is ever allowed to host another Olympics) you should spend some of the own the podium billions on a) figuring out how to light a torch, b) some padding so as not to kill people, c) a real police force that can prevent a crazy nut from entering a VIP area uncontested, and d) more beer. :-/
